POSITION: Network Engineer & Systems Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Director of Technology


PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Network & Systems Supervisor is a member of the technology team and works closely with the Director of Technology to plan, lead, and deliver customer support services to schools including installation, troubleshooting, user assistance, and training. The ideal candidate will also act as a leader and provide elevated support to the help desk technicians. The position contributes to the evaluation and improvement of the existing school district infrastructure.

The Network & Systems Supervisor job functions may include: diagnosing and resolving problems; planning and analysis of work processes; as well as, researching and reporting trends and patterns of problems. This position will also be responsible for developing and maintaining problem tracking databases, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware and software, performing backup and recovery operations, and consulting with users to identify needs and requirements. The Network & Systems Specialist also provides support for all networked information systems including servers, networks, electronic security, physical security, and telephony. This position is expected to evaluate and recommend solutions; plan and execute implementation; install and manage hardware, operating systems and applications with the objective of providing robust and stable server operating platforms.

RESPONSIBILITES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide escalation, backup support and serve as a technical mentor to other IT staff.
  • Troubleshoot and support connectivity needed and access to on-premises and cloud-based systems.
  • Support an increased scope and breadth of systems, requiring a deep understanding of the technology and the application in a business or instructional setting.
  • Install and configure server application software.
  • Implement advanced routing, ACLs, VLAN and other protocols in network switches.
  • Evaluate security vulnerabilities within assigned area of responsibility and implement solutions.
  • Support existing data back-up strategies and evaluate new tools/services as needed.
  • Assess infrastructure in different customer environments and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Benchmark existing and planned capabilities against best practices.
  • Develop strategies for deploying server patches and vulnerability remediation.
  • Assist in the procurement and replacement of the district firewall.
Essential Job Skills:
  • Experience with Student Information Systems (SIS) and State and Federal compliance reporting.
  • Experience with database structures, online applications, and database importing/ exporting to build reports and data tables.
  • Experience installing, implementing, and maintaining information systems, databases, and related systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree or post-secondary technical school training and at least 2-4 years' experience OR Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years' experience supporting network infrastructure in an educational setting.
  • 1-2 years experience leading a team of technicians.
  • Detailed knowledge of devices such as computers, tablets, smart phones, VoIP phones, audio-visual systems, Interactive White Boards, printers, scanners.
  • Ability to configure and support unified communication systems with VoIP - Telephony
  • Knowledge of email/collaboration systems (Microsoft Exchange and O365), remote backups, account administration, file rights management.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of all the management systems, group policies, software settings and software delivery methods that influence the operation and user interface of devices and location and backup of user data.
  • Experience researching present and future technologies and an ability to learn how to support new devices as they are encountered.
  • Competence with routing protocols, LAN/WAN/RWAN topology.
  • Competence with data switch, firewall, and core switch configuration.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Azure, InTune, and other access control systems
  • Experience with supporting and installing server patches and releases
  • Experinece with server virtualization (Nutanix, VMware, HyperV)
  • Experience testing and analyzing malicious code, vulnerable software, security tools, and patches.
  • Cisco or Microsoft certification preferred.
  • Other manufacturer certifications preferred.
  • Current police, child abuse & FBI Fingerprint clearances required.
  • Clearance as a MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and Federal Government required.
