POSITION: SIS & Applications Specialist

REPORTS TO: Director of Technology


PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The SIS & Applications Specialist will serve as the main point of contact for for faculty, staff, current and prospective students and families for Student Information System (SIS) and database-related questions. This position works closely with the technology department leadership team to integrate databases with other data systems and perform maintenance. This person will be the District's champion of best practices in data culture and data hygiene. The SIS & Applications Specialist performs a variety of specialized duties that involve the mandated collection and reporting of District data and the maintenance of a comprehensive student information system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PROGRAM/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Establish and maintain mechanisms for the secure collection, maintenance, and submission of confidential information.
  2. Serve as point of contact and provide direct support for SIS and database-related information.
  3. Work with all CUSD departments to ensure efficient data flow, integrity and intraoffice collaboration.
  4. Assure the reliability, security and validity of school information by monitoring of systems and applying data privacy, confidentiality, and security practices.
  5. In collaboration with the Director of Technology, manage vendor relations, procurement, installation and implementation of information systems, databases, and related systems.
  6. Perform regular maintenance tasks, system enhancements, and system configuration.
  7. Create and maintain user accounts including user system permissions to facilitate user access to local, department and organization data.
  8. Work with District's information system vendors in handling changes to PIMS reporting requirements.
  9. Support the District's learning management system (Schoology).
  10. Provide support for data integration with other information systems including, but not limited to, Lunch, Mass Notification, Library, and Special Education systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS
  1. Experience with Student Information Systems (SIS) and State and Federal compliance reporting
  2. Experience with database structures, online applications, and database importing/ exporting to build reports and data tables
  3. Experience installing, implementing, and maintaining information systems, databases, and related systems

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education and Experience
    1. 5 years experience in managing applications in an education environment
    2. Bachelor's Degree or higher prefered
    3. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Professional or Other Required Certifications

    1. Language Skills
  1. Ability to write reports, formal correspondence, and procedural documents that conform to prescribed style and format.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, agencies, vendors, or other members of the community.

  1. Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts in the performance of routine assignments.
    1. Reasoning Ability
  1. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  2. Ability to interpret technical instructions and regulations involving both abstract and concrete variables.
  3. Ability to apply sound judgment to resolve conflicts and solve problems.

  1. Ability to transport between central office and various locations throughout the county and state as required by the position.
  2. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  3. Ability to meet demands from several people, and to multi-task.

Physical Demands:

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand,
and walk.
  1. The employee is frequently required to talk and listen.
  2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  3. The position requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with staff and the public, and irregular or extended work hours.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
