POSITION: Director of Transportation

REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer (COO)


The Director of Transportation is responsible for the oversight and supervision of the transportation services of the school district. It acts as a liaison with the major contractor and individual contractors of transportation, parents, students, schools, and the district.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Oversees the scheduling of routes and field trips with contractors and/or district drivers.
  2. Serve as primary district transportation contact between school districts, parents, contractors, and schools.
  3. Generate mileage survey and student load count documentation for District and PDE reports.
  4. Manage payroll process for bus monitors.
  5. Train bus aides and/or drivers.
  6. Develop and implement transportation policies.
  7. Develop bus routes using routing system tools.
  8. Assist the COO with the development of the transportation budget.
  9. Complete the annual transportation report.
  10. Complete transportation cost estimates for the school district.
  11. Report on and investigate accidents involving contracted vehicles.
  12. Complete all state reports and answers to auditors in the absence of the COO.
  13. Responsible for checking roads on inclement weather days in the absence of the COO.
  14. Responsible for drug testing program.
  15. Maintain list of all district employees and subcontracted employees who are eligible to drive a district vehicle, or personal vehicle for district business, and forward to each building and program administrator.
  16. Conduct all Motor Vehicle Record checks, at least once a year, for all district employees and subcontracted employees who are eligible to drive a district vehicle or personal vehicle for district business.
  1. Education and Experience
    1. High school diploma.
    2. 3-5 years supervisory experience.
    3. Ability to understand and comply with written and oral instructions.
    4. Knowledge of computerized routing systems.
  1. Professional or Other Required Certifications
    1. Certification or ability to obtain certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician.
    2. Certification or ability to obtain certification as a School Bus Driver Instructor.
