Qualifications

Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education with Special Education certification. Proficient computer skills. Valid driver license must be maintained.

Experience: Prefer at least three (3) years experience with special population students. Strong background in education, with emphasis on special education and the special needs and requirements of emotionally disturbed and/or learning disabled individuals

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear; frequently required to grasp, reach, stoop, and bend; and occasionally required to climb stairs and/or ladders. An employee must also be able to follow oral and written instructions and procedures.

The employee is required to routinely perform light lifting and/or moving from 1 to 20 lbs., frequently perform moderate lifting and/or moving from 21 to 60 lbs., and occasional lifting and/or moving of greater than 61 lbs.; requires vision and physical ability to regularly operate Devereux equipment/vehicles; requires physical ability to successfully perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and First Aid procedures; directly observe, document and visually monitor Safe & Positive Approaches techniques and participate if/when additional support is needed; and must be free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants, and other chemical substances or controlled substances.

While performing the duties of this position, an employee regularly works with clients with unpredictable behavior; works inside in areas that are adequately ventilated and lighted, frequently works outside while supervising clients in outdoor activities and may have exposure to changing temperature, humidity and weather conditions; may have occasional travel, as needed, off-site and escorting clients to appointments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, except during certain milieu activities when noise levels may be loud.

Occupational Exposure: This position performs tasks that involve an inherent potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, tissues, or other potentially infectious materials; and minimal exposure to hazardous chemicals/wastes. All employees are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series. Personal Protective Equipment is available for use, as needed.

Level of Supervision : Functionswith minimal supervision, and must demonstrate an ability to act within policy, where decisions are within standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines. Supervision will be in accordance with experience, training and demonstrated performance.
