SUMMARY
This position provides leadership and direction for Curriculum and Instruction and programs such as Highly Capable & Equity and Achievement; AVID and Academic Acceleration; Title I/LAP; Early Learning; CTE and Research & Evaluation; assists the Deputy Superintendent in the supervision, direction and coordination of staff and programs; represents District programs and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Provides leadership and ensures the establishment and attainment of goals and objectives for Curriculum and Instruction; and programs such as Highly Capable & Equity and Achievement; AVID and Academic Acceleration; Title I/LAP; Early Learning; CTE and Research & Evaluation departments and programs.
  2. Oversees all programs and departments planning and development; recommends all budget and staffing allocations and expenditures; interprets related policies and regulations for District staff and the public; keeps departmental administrators informed of special projects; works with department Administrators to assist in problem solving, solutions for program direction and equity in programs; ensures cooperative planning between Administrators, District staff and building staff in matters related to assigned programs and departments.
  3. Works with the Deputy Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendents, and other management personnel to develop District-wide policies and administrative guidelines; represents the District on matters related to assigned programs and departments; presents information to the Cabinet and School Board as directed by the Superintendent; represents programs on various committees and special projects.
  4. Performs as liaison between District staff, parents, students, professional associations, community based organizations, the public, and a variety of interest groups; investigates and responds to inquiries and concerns from staff, citizens, individual parents and parent groups, follows up with appropriate action and resolution; works in developing partnerships and provides liaison duties with area business, as approved.
  5. Communicates with the Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent, K-12 regarding departmental and school-level concerns.
  6. Works collaboratively with the Deputy Superintendent in making recommendations to the Superintendent regarding administrative positions.
  7. Supports the development of partnerships and works with the community and local businesses; recommends district participation in various regional programs for the purpose of community partnership.
  8. Serves as a member of the District negotiating teams in collective bargaining, as assigned.

  1. Maintains and updates knowledge and skills required for success in the position by participating in professional development activities and needed or as assigned.
  2. Directs, manages, and participates in a variety of special projects and performs related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis.
  3. Regular, reliable, predictable attendance or physical presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the performance of the work.

CONDITIONS
Required to work beyond the regular work day; may be required to deal with sensitive and difficult situations and/or people; required to frequently travel to District and community sites; occasionally required to travel out of the community; may be required to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, climb, and/or be mobile.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
Master's degree in Education, Public Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university; five years of increasingly responsible leadership, teaching, curriculum development, and supervisory experience; public school administrative experience preferred; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.

LICENSES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment.
Washington State Teaching Certificate.
Principals or Administrative Certificate or the ability to obtain either a Principal's or Administrative Certificate within the first twelve months of employment.
Valid Washington State driver's license.
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
