Essex Westford School District is hiring for full-time, school-year Professional Food Lab Supervisor/Coordinator to supervise the daily operations of the Professional Foods program in cooking and dining room service labs. This role will assist the program instructors in the education of students including management of student behavior; record keeping; instructional assistance; classroom and field work/laboratory safety, security, set-up and organization; and interaction and communication with students, support staff, parents/guardians, and other internal and external constituents.

The Lab Supervisor/Coordinator role is expected to begin with the 2021-2022 school year at our Center for Technology. The typical work schedule is 6.5 hours/day during student days.

Job responsibilities include:
  • Assists with the preparation and setup of the Professional Foods Labs lab and lesson materials.
  • Oversees and carries out daily facility maintenance tasks related to the program; organizes and maintains supplies and equipment used in the program; ensures specific safety and sanitation guidelines are followed before, during and after each instructional day.
  • Provides instruction to students within the established program under the direction of the program instructor(s).
  • Monitors students' work and advises program instructor(s) on students' skills and effectiveness in program.
  • Helps enforce and communicate rules and expectations for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students; monitors classroom activity at all times, determines need for intervention, resolves conflicts with students bringing unusual or difficult problems to the program instructors' attention; implements student behavior support plan as needed.
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
  • Minimum of an Associate's degree or the equivalent (or the ability to meet the requirements to become a highly qualified paraeducator under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLBA) within the first six-months of employment) , plus five or more years of recent industry experience in the related field.
  • Holds and maintains the ServeSafe Manager Certification or is able to earn this credential within the first 2 months of employment.
  • Experience working with children/adolescents and adults especially those with special needs or at-risk of dropping out of school. Understanding of student learning differences.
  • Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, parents, and representatives of outside organizations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies. Commitment and demonstrated ability to work with a team toward common goals.
