JOB TITLE: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Maintenance Technician

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

PAY GRADE: PG-5 (260 Days)

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance & Facilities

DEPT./SCHOOL: Maintenance

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment throughout the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Texas driver's license

Required to drive district vehicle

Must meet CCISD driver guidelines

Certified HVAC Technician

Class A or Class B license preferred

C or R endorsement preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of service techniques for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration Ability to read blueprints and schematics

Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Experience:

Two years experience in HVAC and refrigeration service Competitive compensation and benefits package.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Assist with diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in various types of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems; order and replace parts.
  1. Repair, replace, or calibrate controls.
  1. Install new heating systems, air conditioning systems, and refrigeration components including piping, and air ducts.
  1. Maintain freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
  1. Operate equipment and tools following established safety procedures; perform preventive maintenance and repairs.

6. Respond to emergency calls as needed.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Ladders, hand and power tools, freon reclaiming machine, vacuum pump, soldering equipment, and light truck or van.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate and follow instructions (verbal and written), read blueprints and schematics, diagnose and resolve HVAC problems, and work independently.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Frequent districtwide travel. Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching; moderate lifting and carrying. Ability to operate hand and power tools, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work outside and inside; exposed to extreme temperatures. Work around equipment with moving parts; exposed to electrical hazards. Ability to operate motor vehicle.
