Elementary Art Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Massachusetts Licensure as an elementary art teacher.
• SEI endorsement preferred
• Successful experience in teaching elementary school Art.
• Submission of a portfolio including both professional and student art work.
• Familiarity with rubrics for assessment purposes.

• Proficient classroom management skills.
• Familiarity with rubrics and assessment strategies.
• Such other alternatives as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable and appropriate.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach classes in Art using a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional Medias and techniques. Elements of art and the Principles of design.
• Cooperate with art teachers and those in other curriculum areas to develop and implement curriculum objectives based on the learning standards of the Art curriculum and State frameworks.
• Organize and facilitate student art shows, focus on artistic development in children and adolescents.
• Implement a variety of teaching and assessment techniques (including formative and summative) to ensure student achievement and engagement.
• Maintain an organized classroom (materials, supplies, art resources).

• Cooperate with teachers in other discipline areas to develop a positive and inclusive school-wide culture
• Evaluate classroom activities on a regular basis in respect to district/departmental goals
• Maintain all attendance and grade records.
• Accept supervision and guidance from the Fine Arts Department Head and Principal.
• Continue to grow in the position through attendance at meetings, conferences, seminars, through readings in professional literature and through enrollment in college or university courses.
• Such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal, Department Head and/or Assistant Superintendent.

REPORTS TO: Fine Arts Department Head

SALARY & TERMS: In accordance with the FEA Unit A contract.
