PURPOSE OF JOB: Work with ELL families to enroll in school, fill out forms, converse with
teachers and principals, procure uniforms and vaccinations, find transportation, and call parents
about absences. Translate and interpret school forms and notices and assist ELL parents of the
KCPS.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following.
1. Work with parents via phone, written communication or home visit for information
about students, schoolteachers, principals, meetings and school district policies.
2. Interpret for district personnel and families.
3. At the parents request provide information about attendance, progress and behavior.
4. Interpret for school staff to facilitate student and parent comprehension of information.
5. Promote better relations between families and staff.
6. Translate flyers, memos, and notes to parents for schools.
7. Work with other agencies for the benefit of KCPS ELL students and families.
8. Record Reports of Families Visits and phone calls in the Tyler System.
9. Make referrals to inside school district departments, and to outside agencies.
10. Implement monthly parents meetings at the school.
11. Attend School meetings both during and after normal work hours.
12. Support school programs.
13. Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
60 college hours (or equivalent experience or a combination of education and
experience)
Oral fluency in English and in Spanish
Exceptional interpersonal and diversity skills
Ability to work both independently and in a group
Knowledge of programs public and private assistance programs in the KCPS area
Must have vehicle to travel between school, students homes and community agencies
Required Languages: Spanish
Reliable transportation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
College degree in Education, Communication, Social Work, Multicultural Studies or
Language.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 12 months (7.5 hours per day/5 days per week)

KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9% contribution is required from employee
and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
