Job Description

KIPP Charlotte teachers and teacher assistants are at the core of our mission to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths needed to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond. This role will lead small group instruction in Reading and Math to support the work Lead Teachers are doing in the classroom. They will meet with students who are struggling in Reading or Math throughout the week to provide additional instructional and academic help, supporting students to grow. As a KIPP Charlotte Teacher Assistant, your core responsibilities include:
Support Curriculum Development and Instruction
  • Help to adapt and execute a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum
  • Support teachers as they develop academically rigorous lessons, unit plans, rubrics and assessments
  • Provide students with daily feedback on performance and plan for individual learning needs
  • Receive guidance and materials from Lead Teachers on how to best support students who are struggling
Help Build a Positive School and Classroom Culture
  • Embody and maintain school's values, policies and culture
  • Develop positive relationships with students, families, teachers and staff
  • Establish and maintain strong communication with all parents and share progress
  • Show up for critical school events, including: staff meetings, open houses, parent teacher conferences and more
Demonstrate a Growth Mindset
  • Pursue challenging professional goals each year
  • Give and receive positive and constructive feedback with your colleagues
  • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development


The following are required of all KIPP Charlotte teacher assistants:
  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Pass Criminal Background Check
  • Demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap
  • Zest, grit, professionalism, and a sense of humor
Preferred Qualifications
The following are not required but are advantageous for candidates:
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Teacher's Assistant
  • Experience in teaching in a high performing charter school and/or schools with a high population of students with free and reduced lunch
  • Fluency in Spanish

Additional Information

This position is compensated at $18 / hour and works up to 29 hours / week. Since this is a part-time position, benefits are not included.
