Position Description:

Henderson International School is seeking a Mathematics teacher to join the team. The qualified candidate will have a combination of subject mastery, middle and high school experience, ability to connect with students and their families, and to work as part of a dedicated team of individuals. The role also includes other duties such as teaching an STEAM elective class, advising students, and participation in outdoor education and field trips.

  • Provides a safe and nurturing learning environment in which students can take intellectual risks.
  • Creates an atmosphere of mutual respect with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Selects and plans appropriate learning and teaching activities that are in alignment with Henderson International School standards and the Henderson Academic Plan.
  • Encourages students to ask questions, to express their challenges and concerns, and to take responsibility for their own growth and learning.
  • Identifies students who need additional academic assistance and be able to refer such students appropriately.
  • Differentiates instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Provides consistent reports on student progress and maintains open communication in ensuring that these reports are accurate and constructive.
  • Knows and uses a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and learning objectives.
  • Develops lessons that engage students in higher order thinking and problem solving.
  • Attends and participates in staff development programs, faculty events and meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Encourages students to set realistic goals and to use their time in a constructive and balanced manner.
  • Fosters a creative, flexible, and collaborative learning environment.
  • Uses existing and emerging technologies as integral tools to support teaching and learning.
  • Helps students develop habits of mind, and skills that will enable them to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers and effective problem solvers.
  • Attends functions in support of school and community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies

  • Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction from basic math through advanced Algebra and Geometry.
  • In depth understanding of all elements, goals and instructional best practices strategies, embodied in the Henderson Academic Plan, as well as the ability to articulate the plan clearly to parents and students.
  • Outstanding listening and presentation skills.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills including but not limited to lesson planning, using a wide variety of resources implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments, analyzing data to inform instructional choices.
  • Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner.
  • Ability to manage, delegate and monitor tasks.
  • Ability to mentor and coach students, and to serve as a student advocate and advisor.
  • Highly developed collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work well with others as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize and to expend allotted resources in alignment with stated academic priorities.
  • Ability to demonstrate in your actions the Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles of the School.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor Degree

Preferred: Master Degree, State license / certification

Experience:

Required: Previous experience teaching Algebra I and II and Geometry

Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing and assessing curriculum using curriculum mapping software and adapting instruction to meet the individual needs of students.

Experience with integration of instructional technology.

Prior Knowledge:

Required: Min. of 2 years in a high-achieving classroom environment.
