Substitute Bus Aides, Bus & Van Drivers

2020-2021 School Year

Duration: Full time through end of School Year when school is engaged in in-person session,

or until the position is no longer needed.

Assist in providing daily safe transportation of students to and from programs within the town and to other out of district locations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to relate well with the public
  • Experience working with Special Needs children preferred
  • Sign language skills preferred
  • CPR and first aid training required
  • Bus Drivers CDL and medical exam required, Van Drivers 7D license and medical exam required
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may deem appropriate and acceptable


REPORTS TO:
  • Transportation Director


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the bus/van operator in transporting a small number of handicapped children to and from school
  • Responsible for seeing that pupils are placed on the bus/van safely, are properly seated, and seat belts and/or harnesses are applied
  • Serve as a comforting influence during occasional emotional or physical outbursts
  • Aid students off/on the bus/van assisting them into the school or to their homes
  • Maintain order on the vehicle at all times
  • Perform such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned


SALARY: Starting pay $15 per hour for Bus Drivers and $13 per hour for Bus Aides
