Overview of Cambridge Public Schools:
Cambridge Public Schools, in partnership with our families and community, will provide all students with rigorous, joyful, and culturally responsive learning as well as the social, emotional, and academic supports each student needs to achieve their goals and post-secondary success as engaged community members. CPS students and staff, as members of a learning organization engaged in continuous improvement, are committed to anti-racist, anti-biased curriculum and instruction.

About 8,000 students choose Cambridge Public Schools (CPS) each year, and our diverse student enrollment continues to rise. Over 30% of CPS students speak a language other than English at home, and over 65 languages are spoken by our families. Among the most common are Spanish, Haitian Creole, Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, and Portuguese. Our schools proudly embrace this diversity.

The structure of our school system supports the developmental growth of students over time. Twelve elementary schools feed into five "Upper School" programs, bringing together enough students to allow for greater choice and differentiation without sacrificing the safe feeling of a relatively small environment. The Upper Schools then feed into one high school, the eclectic and innovative Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.

Cambridge Street Upper School:
The Cambridge Street Upper School is an innovative public middle school in the Cambridge Public School District. We are looking for a dynamic, committed person with strong content and pedagogical knowledge, solid classroom management skills, a deep commitment to social justice and anti-racism and experience working in an urban school setting.

The Role:
Cambridge Street Upper School (CSUS) seeks an energetic, flexible and committed educator to join us as an ELA/Literacy Instructional Support Coach for grades 6-8. The ELA/Literacy Coach's role is to promote effective literacy instruction that is anti-racist/anti-biased, expands rigorous, joyful, and culturally responsive learning experiences, is standards based, ensures high achievement for all students, inspires our students to become lifelong readers and writers and results in equitable learning experiences across our schools.

The literacy coach will work with teachers in grades 6-8, supporting their ongoing professional growth and learning both as individuals and in their teams. The literacy coach will work in a collaborative manner with teachers, encouraging and inspiring growth and reflection on their own practice. The literacy coach will draw on a depth of knowledge about reading and writing development as well as significant experiences teaching upper grades literacy in their work with teachers. The literacy coach will also work directly with the principal to support data monitoring and analysis, school improvement, and intervention work. The literacy coach will support implementation of the CPS ELA curriculum and the generating and sustaining of a powerful vision for lifelong literacy learning in school and beyond. The literacy coach will be responsible for attending various meetings including ELA department meetings, grade level team meetings and weekly Cultural Proficiency seminar; keeping accurate records and communicating with caregivers on a regular basis throughout the year, and performing other duties as requested by the Head of School. The literacy coach will meet monthly with upper school coaches across the district and receive support from the ELA/Literacy District Support Coach.
