Role Mission:

The Director of Schools (DoS) will ensure that VCP continually improves our model for instructional excellence in regard to student outcomes, effectiveness of school-wide systems, and strategic support of all students and staff, in partnership with the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instruction (SDCI) and Network Support Team. The DoS will combine a capacity for systems-level and strategic thinking, deep instructional knowledge, careful attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills in building relationships with critical internal and external stakeholders. Principals and Principals-in-Residence will report to the DoS. The DoS will report to the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

Your Impact:


• Develop and lead a high performing team of mission-critical Principals toward exceptional outcomes for students, families, and staff. These Responsibilities include:
o Manage 5-8 elementary and middle school Principals and Principals-in-Residence
o Support Principals in leading and overseeing the school's instructional program (curriculum and assessment), and coordinate additional network support from content leads as needed;
o Support Principals in ensuring that every student shows dramatic achievement gains and that all schools meet the ambitious performance goals set by Vista College Prep;
o Support administration of all standardized student assessments and evaluations, including state assessments, interim assessments, and nationally normed assessments;
o Work with Principals to analyze STEP, MAP, and interim assessment data across the entire campus and ensure next steps are completed during each data cycle;
o Analyze and action plan around: student achievement data, observation and coaching data, and student behavior data
o Provide guidance to Principals on effective management of School Leadership Teams in order to realize strong outcomes for students and families while also maintaining strong staff satisfaction and retention;
o Build and execute Principal and Assistant Principal professional development, utilizing internal resources as well as external partnerships
o Plan and conduct weekly 1:1 meetings, classroom observations, instructional rounds, Principal team meetings, etc.
o Work with principals to set teacher professional development priorities for the year and break them down to 5-6 week cycles (aligned to data and school needs);
o Develop and conduct highly effective mid- and end-of-year performance evaluations;
o Work with Principals to ensure that they continue to implement rituals and practices that deepen parent engagement and investment while also creating/sustaining a welcoming school-culture for families;
o Ensure attainment of parent engagement goals, especially with home visits, conference attendance, and teacher phone calls home
• Support network wide professional development of instructional staff as a member of the network Curriculum and Instruction team. These Responsibilities include:
o Help design outstanding site-based and network-wide professional development, including differentiated Summer Professional Development for new and returning staff;
o Develop annual professional development scope and sequence for principals and with principals build annual professional development calendar for school leadership teams
o Lead Principal professional development and collaborate with other network staff on leadership development across the network
• Support hiring process for school-based leadership roles, including
o Partner with the Director of Talent and SDCI to develop systems necessary to successfully source and hire qualified individuals for positions such as Principal, Assistant Principal, Lead Teachers, Interventionists, etc.
o Guide hiring decisions for school-based leadership roles with the goal of building strong, balanced teams across the network
• Collaborate with the Network Support Team to ensure that schools are receiving necessary instructional supports and that priorities are being fully executed on each campus
o Build a strong organizational culture that is aligned with VCP Core Observable Behaviors and leadership traits and ensures that all schools are successful
o Problem-solve solutions to challenges common to all schools in network
o Support the execution of VCP's strategic plan and ensure key targets are met, facilitating additional professional development (i.e. sessions, 1:1s, experiences, etc) when necessary

Your Qualifications:


• Passionate commitment to the mission of Vista College Prep ;
• Mastery of and enthusiasm for academic subjects and instructional coaching;
• Track record of producing dramatic, demonstrable student achievement gains or comparable results in current field;
• Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Excellent organizational skills and careful attention to detail and follow-through;
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree; Master's degree preferred;
• Minimum of four years leading or coaching leaders in urban public school setting preferred;
• Experience as a Dean, AP, or equivalent leadership role and/or at a high-performing charter school highly preferred ;
• Spanish proficiency or fluency beneficial, but not required;
• Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card.
