Role Mission:

The Director of Culture (DoC) is responsible for ensuring that all campus culture systems support a safe, known, joyful and productive culture and allow students the maximum opportunities to engage in learning. The DoC will ensure that VCP continually improves our model for equity in regard to student discipline systems and outcomes and the effectiveness of school-wide classroom management systems. The DoC will lead network-wide student culture data analysis systems; support campus-based culture data analysis by assistant principals of culture;the implementation of social emotional learning and student circle; and provide strategic support of all students and staff to cultivate a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and joyful school culture. I n partnership with the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instruction (SDCI) and Network Support Team, the DoC will combine a capacity for systems-level and strategic thinking, deep knowledge of social emotional development and behavior management techniques, careful attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills in building relationships with critical internal and external stakeholders. The DoS will report to the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instruction (SDCI).

Your Impact:


• Develop and lead a high performing team of assistant principals of culture (APCs) to support a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and joyful school culture and maintain an equity-focused lens on discipline. These Responsibilities include:
o In collaboration with the SDCI, Director of Schools, and principals, support APCs in leading and overseeing schoolwide management and discipline systems;
o Ensure there is a clear networkwide vision of excellence for behavioral expectations, discipline systems, and school culture standards, and that this vision has been clearly communicated to all stakeholders;
o Ensure that adequate disciplinary records are maintained on each campus, including conference record, suspensions, and phone calls;
o Analyze campus and networkwide behavior and discipline data through an equity-lens, and support APCs in ensuring that all behavior interactions maintain the dignity of adults and students;
o Support as needed with the development and implementation of behavior support plans on campus;
o Work with APCs to analyze and action plan around classroom management and discipline data across the entire campus and ensure next steps are completed during each data cycle;
o Provide guidance to APCs on effective support of teachers and the wider school team in order to realize equitable outcomes for students and families while also maintaining strong staff satisfaction and retention;
o Build and execute APC professional development, utilizing internal resources as well as external partnerships
o Plan and conduct biweekly 1:1 meetings, classroom observations, APC team meetings, etc.
o Support campus-based teams in planning schoolwide culture events and rituals
o With the Director of Schools and Director of Operations, work with campus teams to ensure that they continue to implement rituals and practices that deepen parent engagement and investment while also creating/sustaining a welcoming school-culture for families;
o With the Director of Schools and Director of Operations, support attainment of parent engagement goals, especially with home visits, conference attendance, and teacher phone calls home
• Develop and lead network wide implementation in social emotional learning, including but not limited to student Circles and Circle systems. These Responsibilities include:
o Oversee and coordinate all staff Circle training throughout the academic year, including summer professional development.
o Train all Circle Walkthrough teams on rubrics and lead ongoing norming sessions to ensure valid and consistent data collection
o Deliver feedback to school leadership teams on weekly Circle debrief meetings and communicate (via memo or huddle) any key batch feedback school-wide
o Review Compass Data weekly with APCs and determine key actions and adjustments needed
o Lead monthly Compass stepback to analyze and action plan monthly Circle and Compass Data
o Review bigger picture data (e.g. Compass Survey) with team to set concrete goals & action steps for continuous improvement
o Own the overall vision for development with the year long Compass PD Scope & Sequence
o Revise and update PD S&S as needed based on data & teacher feedback
o Lead individual Compass PD Sessions for staff, using Valor turnkey materials whenever possible


Your Qualifications:
• Passionate commitment to the mission of Vista College Prep;
• Understanding of the nuances of urban school environments and school culture;
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to consistently deliver on time, even amidst many moving parts;
• Track record of producing dramatic, demonstrable student achievement gains or comparable results in current field;
• Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Excellent organizational skills and careful attention to detail and follow-through;
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree; Master's degree preferred;
• Minimum of two years leading or coaching leaders in urban public school setting preferred;
• Experience as a Principal, AP, or equivalent leadership role and/or at a high-performing charter school highly preferred;
• Spanish proficiency or fluency preferred;
• Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card.
