Role Mission: The mission of the ELA/SS Curriculum Manager is to manage the Middle School English Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum at IDEA Public Schools in Ohio. Working in a high-performing, rapidly expanding, and geographically dispersed charter network, the Curriculum Manager will create and manage the implementation of a comprehensive, user-friendly, research-based and aligned curriculum.  Additionally, the Curriculum Manager will implement a teacher support system to drive teacher effectiveness and student results.

 

Accountabilities

 

During the 2021-2022 School Year -
Lead the process for choosing grade-level materials that are aligned to state standards, promote rigorous instruction, and align to the mission of AP for All.
  • Work with various instructional materials producers to gather samples of materials that meet the bar for excellence
  • Follow a research-based process for evaluating instructional materials using various frameworks for evaluation
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to get feedback to inform decisions

 
Create a suite of curriculum products, including a year-long plan, unit plans and instructional resources for all courses in the portfolio, to be posted and available by Summer 2022.
  • Follow a research-based process to design and post curriculum products that will be implemented in the first year of instruction
  • Establish a project plan to ensure deadlines are met and progress toward goals is tracked, leading to all products being available for trainings beginning in Summer 2022


 
Collaborate across functional teams to learn the structures and processes of launching a new region so schools open with all resources readily available
  • Participate in weekly regional calls to build understanding of regional goals and establish relationships with key stakeholders
  • Support with recruitment efforts as part of the regional leadership team, including Super-recruitment days and 1-2 recruitment events per semester.
  • Present program vision to various stakeholders, building understanding of the vision for academics in the respective content areas.


During the 2022-2023 school year, and beyond - 

 
Create a suite of curriculum products, including a year-long plan, unit plans and instructional resources so the district achieves established student achievement goals.
  • Follow a research-based process to design and post curriculum materials so that 95% of materials are posted according to curriculum "drop" dates (typically 5 weeks ahead of tier one classroom instruction)
  • For courses using high-quality commercial instructional materials: align the instructional materials to the state standards, providing clear articulation between the program and required course content
  • For courses developed internally: Create daily lesson plans and student-facing materials that ensure rigorous academic experiences for all IDEA students

 
Design, develop and deliver reliable and aligned assessments by posted bundle drop deadlines.
  • Create, refine, and edit biweekly, end-of-module, semester, and mock assessments so that they are completed and administered with less than 3 errors.
  • Design, create, and deliver high-quality and aligned assessments that are posted and visible by the bundle drop deadlines
  • Deliver assessment documents and support materials so they are reviewed with Student Performance & Advocacy Team before posted deadlines
  • Review assessment data with national and regional teams to inform instruction
  • Conduct weekly assessment data analyses to provide curricular and instructional direction for all teachers, campus leaders, and district leaders

 
Manage, support, and coach Course Leaders to design and deliver district trainings to improve all teachers' instructional practices so that 90% of participants rate trainings a 4 or higher out of 5 on the training survey.
  • Recruit and develop Course Leaders for managed grade levels across all IDEA regions
  • Coach Course Leaders on effective professional development planning and facilitation
  • Evaluate Course Leader effectiveness using established criteria in order to make informed decisions regarding placement and role tenure

 

 
Design ongoing quality professional development sessions aimed at improving instructional practices and coach facilitators to deliver sessions so that 90% of participants rate sessions 4 or higher out of 5 on exit surveys.
  • Design district-wide program trainings to build awareness of initiatives, state requirements, or other pertinent updates and best practices
  • Lead quarterly Course Collaboration preparation sessions during Course Leader Institutes
  • Facilitate Course Collaboration and other teacher/leader sessions when necessary.

 
Analyze student achievement results, identify trends, and communicate course corrections to support improvement to meet student achievement goals.
  • Analyze and share weekly student achievement data and analysis
  • Facilitate quarterly data analysis/data sharing with various stakeholders to highlight student achievement, professional development participation and feedback and teacher observation data
  • Conduct regular campus observations with team members and school leaders to provide explicit feedback and next steps on curriculum implementation so that the district achieves the District A Rating.

Work on a distributed team where much of the work is completed remotely.

  • Lead, attend and actively participate in weekly team meetings and monthly strategy meetings
  • Provide feedback to colleagues and work collaboratively with other members of the Academics lead team, members of the larger Academic Services Team, and across multi-functioning HQ teams
  • Travel approximately once a month for site visits and collaborative team workshops
  • Conduct weekly campus observations within the region of residence

Qualifications:  
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or advanced degree preferred; Educator Certification
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of three years teaching experience in the relevant content area
    • A strong record of student achievement results as a teacher
    • A strong record of results as a curriculum writer or system-wide administrator
    • Experience designing system-wide assessments and curriculum products in the relevant content area

 

Knowledge and Skills:  
  • Knowledge of the state standards
  • Knowledge of the state End of Course exams
  • Knowledge of the research on content-area best practices
  • Knowledge of the elements and process of curriculum design and development
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills

 

Compensation:
  • Salaries for people entering this role typically start between $73,900 and $90,200, commensurate with relevant qualifications and experience. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organization goal attainment.
