About Our District

The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 27,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. About the Position

The purpose of the School Library Media Technology Specialist (LMTS) position is to provide the expertise necessary to ensure that the school library and instructional technology (IT) programs are aligned with the mission, goals and objectives of the school district. The LMTS strives to collaborate with teachers to connect all learners to literature, resources, and technology in order to instill a love of learning and ensure equitable and informed access to information. The LMTS empowers learners to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, effective and ethical users of ideas and information in the information and digital era.

Planning and Preparation/The Environment: Building the Learning Environment

A. Learning Space

Ensures that library hours, space, and seating provide optimum access for all learners
Designs and maintains a library website that provides 24-7 access to digital information

B. Collection Selection, Development, and Information Access

Builds and maintains a comprehensive, current collection supporting different levels, languages, cultures
Anticipates resource needs through collaborative partnerships and regularly borrows, lends, and responds to requests from other libraries
Collaborates with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources that enhance teaching and learning

C. Resource Management: Budget, Policies and Staffing

Spends Common School Fund allocation in accordance with state guidelines
Communicates policies and procedures to the school community (students, staff and families)
Instructs and directs support staff, volunteers, and student assistants

Instruction and Assessment: Innovation Teaching for Learning Collaborative Planning

A. Collaborates with teams of teachers to implement digital and multimedia best practices while planning, teaching, reflecting and adjusting

Assists in developing collaborative projects across the building

B. Information and Technology Skills Integration

Consults with teachers and offers professional development to staff to integrate information and technology skills into all curricular areas
Models the use of online digital content and collaborative learning to support and extend student and staff learning opportunities anytime, anywhere
Models and facilitates safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies

C. Teaching and Learning

Supports reading and creates an environment where reading is valued for lifelong learning
Provides collaborative instruction that addresses multiple literacies such as written, audio, visual and digital
Leads and models the use of emerging resources that allow students to interact with, curate and present information
Models and promotes diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness

Professional Responsibilities and Growth: Empowering Learning Through Leadership

A. Staff Development

Collaborates with district and building leaders to conduct needs assessments, and to develop and implement technology- rich professional learning opportunities for staff members

B. Advocacy

Advocates for, promotes and reports about the role and services of the school library media program, and its' impact on student achievement
Seeks administrative support to ensure that the library media program is a key component of student achievement

C. Professional Development

Seeks and participates in learning opportunities which support professional growth in areas aligned to SIP goals and stays current on issues and trends in order to provide building level leadership and expertise

Minimum Qualifications

Exceptional interpersonal skills; customer service experience a plus
Strong technology skills applicable to instruction
Leadership and coaching/training experience preferred

Licensing

Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in:

  • Initial Instructional Library Media Specialist
  • Professional Library Media Specialist
  • Library Media Supervisor
Your Wisconsin teaching license must be active, or issued prior to the start of your contract. However, you are eligible for consideration prior to your license being issued.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's of Library Science (MLS) with 2 years LMC experience.
  • Adaptive Schools or other facilitation skills training.
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish


Salary Range

43,209.00 - 74,101.00 Annual Salary

Salary placement is based on two criteria:

1. Education (highest degree earned and academic credits earned after the date your highest degree was awarded)
2. Prior experience working under contract in a K-12 teaching position requiring a state teaching license

Minimum salary placement for new teachers with a Bachelor's degree and no prior teaching experience is $43,209 annually.

Next Steps

After submitting your application, HR will review your information and will invite you to sign up for a first round video interview if you meet minimum qualifications.
Candidates who pass the first-round video interview stage will be eligible for second-round, school-based interviewing at schools who have specific vacancies. School-based interviews begin in April and continue throughout the summer as new vacancies become known across the district.

Timeline

Human Resources will evaluate candidates on a rolling basis beginning December 1, and as needed thereafter. School-based interviewing for specific positions will begin in mid to late April. Interviews are scheduled based on district/school need and certification/skills of applicants.
