About Our District

The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 27,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. About the Position

The school social worker is a core member of the school's integrated pupil services team; this team works collaboratively, in partnership with teachers, administrators, families, and community organizations, to design and deliver a comprehensive, coordinated, and customized system of student supports. The primary purpose of this team is to create environments that maximize opportunities for learning and ensure that all students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to achieve personal success as a college, career, and community ready individual.

As a member of the pupil services team, the school social worker is an advocate for educational equity, promotes the healthy development of the whole-child, and is a leader of systemic change within their school community.

At the core of integrated student services practices lie the following elements:

  • Data-based decision making for planning, delivery, and evaluation of our programs and services
  • Communication, consultation, and collaboration with students, families, staff and community partners
  • Advocacy and leadership to enable each student to be a healthy and successful learner
  • Adhering to professional standards of respectful, confidential, individualized, developmentally appropriate, and culturally competent practice
  • Staying current with professional learning to maintain and develop competency reflecting evidence-based best practice
Essential Duties

  • Foster ongoing positive collaborative relationships with students, families, and the community
  • Member of building based student services team (interdisciplinary problem solving team)
  • Serve as a resource for social emotional learning and universal practices
  • Provide social, emotional, and mental health interventions to individual and groups of students
  • Serve students with disabilities through appropriate referral, evaluation, programing, and placement within the IEP process
  • Coordinate attendance improvement efforts
  • Engage with community agencies to connect families to resources
  • Serve as the point of contact for students and families experiencing homelessness
  • Facilitate effective collaboration practices and communication procedures for students involved in multiple systems
  • Coordinate and provide support for child abuse prevention, and suspected child abuse and neglect reporting
  • Assess, implement, progress monitor, and evaluate effective evidence-based interventions throughout a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS)
  • Contribute to screening and assessment of student behaviors to develop safety plans
  • Provide support for crisis prevention and response efforts at the school level
  • Ensure informed practice through an understanding of policies and laws related to children, families and education

Licensing

Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) pupil services license as a:

  • School Social Worker
Your Wisconsin teaching license(s) must be active, or issued prior to the start of your contract.

Salary Range

43,209.00 - 74,101.00 Annual Salary

Salary placement is based on two criteria:

1. Education (highest degree earned and academic credits earned after the date your highest degree was awarded)
2. Prior experience working under contract in a K-12 teaching position requiring a state teaching license

Minimum salary placement for new teachers with a Bachelor's degree and no prior teaching experience is $43,209 annually.

Next Steps

After submitting your application, HR will review your information and will invite you to sign up for a first round video interview if you meet minimum qualifications.
Candidates who pass the first-round video interview stage will be eligible for second-round, school-based interviewing at schools who have specific vacancies. School-based interviews begin in April and continue throughout the summer as new vacancies become known across the district.

Timeline

Human Resources will evaluate candidates on a rolling basis beginning December 1, and as needed thereafter. School-based interviewing for specific positions will begin in mid to late April. Interviews are scheduled based on district/school need and certification/skills of applicants.
