  • JOB TITLE: Athletic Trainer
    LOCATION: Sheridan High School
    WORK YEAR: Number of days vary based upon games and practices. Nights and occasional Saturdays required.
    WORK STATUS: Part Time, Exempt
    REPORTS TO: Principal and Athletic Director

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Provide Athletic Training Services to student athletes acting as the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with state athletic training practice act.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Maintain a safe Athletic Training environment
    2. Develop a Student Athletic Training program
    3. Provide General Liability and Professional Liability Insurance
    4. Develop a record log for all treatments
    5. Document and notify parents/guardians, athletic director, school secretary and (school nurse - concussions) on major injuries
    6. Provide and Maintain Medical Information Cards on every Student/Athlete that participates in extracurricular Sporting Activities
    7. Maintain a daily student/athlete log sheet on student/athletes that seek assistance
    8. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA")
    9. In cooperation with school nurse and Athletic Director begin a program and provide an initial Concussion Baseline Assessment on every Student/Athlete that participates in extracurricular sporting activities and maintain record for future assessments
    10. Assess concussed student/athletes using baseline assessments and provide proper procedures to regain participation
    11. Advise the School as to the supplies and training equipment needed for the athletic training program
    12. Assist the School faculty and athletic coaching staff in the design and implementation of a continuing education program for the School's athletic coaching staff
    13. Provide conditioning and flexibility training suggestions to the School coaching staff
    14. Monitor athletic injuries and develop injury prevention training and programs
    15. Coordinate and provide injury follow-up and evaluation
    16. Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal.

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
    None

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Required:
    • CHSAA Certified
    • Online training for concussion and CPR aid required or ability to obtain upon hire.

    Preferred:
    • Bilingual, Spanish

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Interactions with students with medical or physical needs, generally in an outdoor setting. Must have the ability to make decisions. May require occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent audio-visual, walking, standing, bending, kneeling and occasional sitting, reaching, stooping, and squatting. Occasional exposure to blood/body fluid, chemicals, cold/heat, dampness, and noise/vibration.

    CLEARANCE:
    Must clear background check through the CBI and the FBI through Fingerprint submission.
