About Our District

The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 27,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. Madison schools are committed to making this district a place where every child thrives. 

Responsibilities of the Position

In the Madison Metropolitan School District, the principal is a critical member of our leadership team. To ensure that each school is a thriving school that prepares every student to graduate college, career and community ready, the principal and assistant principal must demonstrate day one readiness in the following areas:

  • Equity Leadership
  • Human Resource Leadership
  • Instructional Leadership
  • Personal Behavior
  • Intentional and Collaborative School Culture
  • School Management

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Educational Administration or related field. 
  • Evidence that candidate is eligible to be certified by the Wisconsin Department of
    Public Instruction as Principal PreK-12 (51) must be received prior to the start of employment. 
  • Three years of successful teaching experience. 
  • Demonstrated alignment to District vision and core values
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence with equity, anti-racism and Black Excellence
  • Demonstrated leadership experience that drives school improvement
  • Training, experience, and expertise in the following areas of education: working within an instructional team, standards-based instruction and assessment, culturally relevant and differentiated instruction, and technology skills to enhance professional learning and instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of data to improve student learning and in the design and implementation of professional learning experiences to enhance adult use of student data to improve practices and drive school improvement. 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish relationships with students, staff, parents and the community. 
  • Evidence of excellent: oral, written, computer- and web-based communication skills; organizational and group facilitation skills; communication skills among diverse audiences, including students, staff and community partners. 
  • All MMSD positions require employees to commit to functioning from a common understanding about the history and effects of racism, structural racism and implicit bias.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one's own cultural proficiency i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.

 

Salary Range

84,513.00 - 149,161.00 Annual Salary
