Job Description

VISION FOR INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING AT KIPP DC:

At KIPP DC, we believe the quality of instruction defines the rate and quality of student achievement. Teaching and learning is at the core of everything we do. The role of an instructional coach is a position of leadership; the work is to support leaders and teachers in ensuring all students learn and achieve within classrooms that are intentional, rigorous, and joyful. The person in this position will demonstrate a relentless drive toward excellence and a commitment to ensuring that our instruction puts children on a successful path to and through college.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content and Curriculum Development
  • Deep knowledge of the Standards for Mathematical Practice and experience incorporating them into daily lessons and curriculum
  • Deep Knowledge of the vertical progression of Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
  • Ability to create and refine a standards aligned scope and sequence, units, lessons and resources based on data, culturally responsive teaching practices, and stakeholder feedback
  • Use of formative and summative assessment measures to ensure students are meeting proficiency standards and guideposts
  • Lead teachers and leaders in implementing and progress monitoring an effective DDI process involving the triangulation of multiple data points
  • Meet high student and staff learning targets in math


Coaching and Professional Development
  • Deep knowledge of pedagogy and familiarity with coaching practices of Relay and The Art of Coaching
  • Plan and facilitate weekly content team meetings that develop teachers content knowledge and pedagogy
  • Provide teachers and leaders with coaching, modeling, and co-observations to improve and refine teaching practice
  • Use teacher and student performance data to design, coordinate and facilitate professional development to increase teacher and leader expertise in all mathematics involving conceptual, procedural and experiential learning
  • Collaborate with other regional teams to design and coordinate professional development and support for teachers and leaders
  • Participate in regional professional development and assume the role of a life-long learner
  • Additional responsibilities may arise during the school year. This will be communicated with as much notice and flexibility as possible


Qualifications

  • At least four years of successful teaching experience, preferably in urban setting(s)
  • At least two years of successful coaching or leadership experience
  • A strong track record of positive student performance results in mathematics, both in formative measures and high stakes exams
  • Experience writing rigorous unit, lesson plans and assessments
  • Expertise and knowledge of Common Core State Standards and key shifts in mathematical practices
  • Experience administering and analyzing common assessments (i.e. MAP and ANet)
  • A strong track record of facilitating teachers and/or leaders toward instructional improvement
  • Experience designing and leading compelling and useful professional development
  • Experience using multiple assessment measures and observational data to determine coaching and professional development necessary for the improvement in teaching and student performance
  • Well-read and current on best practices in mathematics
  • Excellent written and oral communication
