Wellesley Public Schools seeks a Department Head of Nursing Services to lead the Nursing Services Department for Wellesley Public Schools. The position is responsible for leading and managing the total school nursing program and the ongoing monitoring, assessment and improvement of a comprehensive health program for Wellesley Public Schools including compliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations as well as Wellesley Public Schools policies and procedures.

The Department Head will oversee the management of health records and health related data, provide a consistent framework for health education opportunities in each school and ensure that clinical nursing services meet the standard set by the Wellesley Public Schools. He/she oversees all Wellesley Public Schools nursing staff providing pre-school through grade 12 services.

A Bachelor's Degree, a minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, and a Supervisor/Director and Nursing license through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Nursing is required. The position works 204 days per year and reports to the Director of Student Services. The position is paid according to the WEA Unit B contract and salary is commensurate with experience. The job duties are listed below:

1.Plan, oranize and direct the School Health Program within professional nursing standards and the requirements of the State Department of Public Health.

2. Supervise and evaluate the nursing staff according to the Unit A supervision and evaluation procedures.

3.Organize and approve the ongoing revision of the Wellesley Public Schools nursing manual of protocols and procedures.

4.Oversee the continuous improvement and effective implementation of a school based and system-wide plan for medical emergencies.

5.Serves as liaison between local health organizations and Wellesley Public Schools regarding implementation of health initiatives, immunizations requirements and emerging health issues.

6.Plan, provide and recommend in-service and staff development opportunities for the nursing staff.

7.Coordinate services, including consultation and direct services to children with the School Physician.

8.Provide programs based on current MDPH, CDC guidelines for prevention of communicable diseases and control of infection for students including outreach to parents and faculty.

9. Supervise the procedures related to record keeping, including maintenance of daily logs, reviewing, updating and transferring student health records.

10.Meet with the Director of Student Services to interpret school health policies and assist in the formulation of new policies.

11.Act as a resources to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Director of Student Services and the Director of Health and Fitness, in the ongoing review and implementation of a system-wide health and wellness curriculum.

12.Develop a staffing pattern and schedule that meets the health needs of students and provides for the implementation of a comprehensive school health program.

13.Recruit, interview and recommend nursing candidates for employment and assignment.

14.Implement a plan to provide adequate nursing coverage.

15.Provide orientation for new staff including substitute nurses.

16.Provide direct nursing services to students according to accepted nursing standards as scheduled.

17.Assist nurses in the management of day-to-day student health related problems and act as a resources and support person to them.

18.Conduct department meetings and attend relevant school professional meetings.

19. Compile and report statistics including needs assessment, mandate screenings, daily student visits as required by MDPH on a yearly basis or as requested by Administration.

20.Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements Massachusetts Nurses License
