Overview
Multi -site, school-based /virtual position . Leads programming, builds relationships with school personnel, and monitors school(s) progress toward full implementation of the district Wellness Policy and other nutrition and physical activity goals. I mplements nutrition education for students and caregivers and provides training and technical assistance to school staff around creating an environment that prioritizes healthy eating and physical activity. This is a full time, 12 month position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with School District of Philadelphia staff and individual school personnel to assess a school's wellness needs utilizing the School Health Index and other tools to assess readiness and capacity.
  • Supports schools with development and maintenance of a School Wellness team to address needs around implementation of the District Wellness Policy and other changes that increase healthy eating and activity behaviors.
  • Build, maintain, and grow relationships with school staff and external organizations in order to align school programming focused on increasing healthy eating and physical activity behaviors and practices.
  • Provide training, technical assistance, and resources to school staff around policy, systems, and environmental changes a school can make with the end goal on increased wellness.
  • Document, monitor, and communicate programming progress. Troubleshoot and communicate challenges to management when needed.
  • Provide support to and assist Nutrition Educators with school -based and virtual programming when needed in schools.
  • Train, support, and schedule student interns and volunteers.
  • Works with children and parents to develop proper nutrition, eating, and physical activity habits.
  • Supports preparation of food items needed for taste testing or sampling.
  • Administers evaluative tools for nutrition education programs to assist with the evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Acts as a liaison for School Health/Wellness Councils.
Core Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of nutrition education, school wellness, and the Social Ecological Model.
  • Knowledge of food values and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of the resources and services available to school personnel in need of nutrition education and wellness policy implementation training.
  • Ability to implement nutrition education programs for students, parents, administrative and instructional staff.
  • Ability to prepare materials for training.
  • Bilingual communication preferred but not required.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in public health, education, nutrition or dietetics.
  • Two year of professional experience in nutrition or dietetics which has included conducting nutrition education training or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Supervisory/leadership experience preferred

  • Personal commitment to promoting and being a role model for healthy eating and physical activity.
  • Provide school staff with strategies to support a school environment that encourages and promotes healthy behaviors.
  • Capable of physical aspects of work, including lifting and stair climbing.
  • Proficiency with using email , MS Office applications , Zoom, etc .
  • Ability to acquire, maintain and submit all required PA clearances for school personnel.
  • Must be willing to travel locally. Valid driver's license, insurance and car is beneficial.
