Position at SESI Schools
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skill initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material, or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
• Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work that is set up and assigned by the teacher.
• Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
• Assists with large group activities
• Serves as the chief source of information and helps as a substitute in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Assists in maintaining record of each student's daily behavioral sheets in accordance to the Level System.
• Assists in administration, scoring, and recording such achievement and diagnostic tests as the classroom Special Education teacher recommends for individual students.
• Escorts and monitors students in the time-out room (Quiet Room) as needed, following procedures as outlined in the Staff Training Manual.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher.

Classroom Responsibilities:
• Report to classroom by 8:15am
• Discuss with teacher daily procedures regarding your schedule, morning news, correcting papers, etc.
• Observe teacher and model their vocabulary and learn class rule (i.e., quiet sitting, quiet mouth, bathroom procedures; and out of seat)
• Work one-on-one with children as directed by teacher. (If you do not understand work assigned, please ask teacher)
• Never leave students attended
• Report all behavior problems to the teacher.
• Let teacher decide how to deal with behavior
• If you have a persistent behavior problem, check with teacher for a suitable intervention to use.
• Be observant...Report all unusual circumstances/situations/accidents to teacher.
• Check with teacher about each child in your class. Get to know what each child is capable of and learn behavior modifications for each child in class.
• If you are frustrated working with a particular child, send him/her back to their seat and take a few minutes to calm down. Check with teacher for an appropriate approach in working with that child. However, use this technique in moderation.
• Escort children to events/gym class and assist the teacher of that class.
