    Non-Instructional SSP: Systems Consultant Aurora’s Wellness and Resilience in Education (AWARE )(Mental Health and Counseling)

    • In conjunction with the Mental Health and Counseling Team, will implement, lead and design a system of collecting social emotional learning and mental health data for the Department of Mental Health and Counseling as well as the district. The provider will research, attend training, gain certification and train others in the systems that are developed.
    • The provider will develop, implement and update three-year goal plans for the AWARE program in Mental Health and Counseling
    • Effective Special Service Providers s in mental health and counseling professions in the state of Colorado have the knowledge, skills, and commitments needed to provide excellent and equitable learning opportunities and growth for all students.
    • They strive to support growth and development, close achievement gaps and to prepare diverse student populations for postsecondary and workforce success.
    • Effective Special Service Providers in mental health and counseling professions facilitate mastery of skill development in social and emotional competencies, and employ and adjust evidence-based strategies and approaches for students who are not achieving mastery and students who need acceleration.
    • They also develop in students the skills, interests and abilities necessary to be lifelong learners, as well as for democratic and civic participation.
    • Effective Special Service Providers in mental health and counseling professions communicate high expectations to students and their families and utilize diverse strategies to engage them in a mutually supportive learning environment.
    • Because effective Special Service Providers in mental health and counseling professions understand that the work of ensuring meaningful learning opportunities for all students cannot happen in isolation, they engage in collaboration, continuous reflection, on-going learning and leadership within the district and community.
    • Effective Special Service Providers in mental health and counseling professions establish a rapport with parents, students, colleagues, and community professionals, and exhibit knowledge of social and emotional learning competencies and counseling techniques.
    • Effective Special Service Providers in mental health and counseling professions are responsible for using effective counseling techniques.
    • Effective Special Service Providers in mental health and counseling professions maintain a positive attitude and perception about the systems in place and the work.
    Job Duties
    • Develop, implement, and revise systems for the implementation of social emotional learning and data collection in the Department of Mental Health and Counseling and Division of Equity and Learning
    • Obtain and maintain Training of Trainer (TOT) certification in all required areas
    • Collaborate with the Mental Health and Counseling leadership team to develop, support implementation, and revise of the systems for the implementation and measurement of social emotional learning and mental health support.
    • Work collaboratively with other departments and school sites to build strong systems for implementation and measurement of social emotional learning designed for the learners in APS
    • Develop a system to measure and track progress of data
    • Provide professional development planning and support to district and building staff
    • Conduct observations and provide feedback to APS staff as new systems are transitioned to teams who implement them in schools
    • Collect and maintain data on the effectiveness of the implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and (Neurosequential Model in Education/Therapy (NME/T) systems at the building and district level
    • Inform the Mental Health and Counseling Leadership team on updated research, needs assessment, program effectiveness, recommendations, and next steps
    • Implement and manage one’s own sustainable caring plan and support others in the development and follow through of sustainable caring plans
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    Education and Licensure
    • Minimum Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work or counseling
    • Holds a Colorado Special Services Professional license in the area of school psychology, school social work, or school counseling or is currently eligible for one
    • TOT certification in NME within 6 months of hire (other training will be required based on three year planning)
    • A completed Human Resources file including transcripts, internship verification, previous work experience
    Endorsement Category SSP on Special Assignment Strategic Plan: The SSP in a mental health and counseling profession shall identify the development needs of students, shall maintain a productive learning environment, and shall work collaboratively to support the priorities of the Strategic Plan. Condition of Employment: As a condition of employment, the individual selected for this position will be expected to complete the APS-sponsored Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE) Certificate Program within the first three years of employment.

As a result, a sustainable care plan will be developed by the employee and monitored by the direct supervisor. In addition, this person must understand how to support others exposed to this level of trauma as well including other professionals working in the district. In addition, this person must have a basic understanding of vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and job burnout; as well as general district and community supports.
