PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for assisting the principal in directing and supervising the various activities of the school and performs other duties as assigned by the principal
SALARY SCHEDULE: Assistant Principal
WORK DAYS: 200

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Education Level: Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Experience, Skill, and Certification:
  • Georgia Leadership Certification or Passing GaPSC approved Leadership Certification Assessment and complete GA Ethics for Educational Leadership Program Entry Assessment. If obtaining a non-renewable certification, it must be completed within 3 years.
  • Five years successful experience in education in a position requiring a Teaching or Service certification
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, conflict resolution, and effective communications necessary to work with students, staff, parents, administrators, and the community
  • Demonstrated skills in classroom management
  • Demonstrated skills in keeping records, managing and understanding data, and preparing and presenting reports
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, district policies, instructional best practices
Preferred

  • Leadership certificate in Educational Leadership
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Three (3) years experience in a leadership role
  • Five years of teaching experience
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Assists the principal in the general administration of the school and serves as principal when the principal is absent.
  2. Meets with and assists teachers in organizing classrooms for effective learning.
  3. Assists in the construction and evaluation of classroom testing instruments.
  4. Coordinates the selection, procurement, and use of instructional supplies, equipment, books, and material.
  5. Assists principal as requested in the evaluation of instruction.
  6. Develops schedule of classes for the school year.
  7. Assists in the planning of staff development in-service program to raise the level of instructional performance.
  8. Recommends ways in which the curriculum can be adjusted to meet the special learning needs of exceptional children.
  9. Participates in proposed and ongoing curriculum development projects.
  10. Serves at the request of principal as advisor to probationary teachers.
  11. Advises in the grade placement and grouping of children.
  12. Engages in research related to curriculum development, as assigned.
  13. Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the school and deals with special cases as necessary.
  14. Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
  15. Secures the services of substitute teachers from approved list as needed.
  16. Supervises student activities as directed by the principal.
  17. Supervises conduct within the school and overseas all discipline procedures, keeping record of any disciplinary action.
  18. Directs textbook supplies distribution and inventory.
  19. Administers school rules regarding attendance.
  20. Administers the student insurance program.
  21. Responds as necessary to urgent situations or emergencies to maintain safety, calm, and order for students, staff, and visitors.
  22. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the school.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 200 days. Salary will be determined based on level of certification and allowable experience.

OFFICE Employees in this category are normally exposed to a typical environment. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There is frequent use of computers, telephone, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.
