Job Description

The Decision Center for Educational Excellence (DCEdEx) brings together individual level PK-20 student data and convenes key stakeholders in an unprecedented way that results in real change for Arizona’s students and families. The DCEdEx team uses clear data visualization to present information to practitioners, community members and policy makers to help guide their decision making.

This role leads the design, examination, visualization, and modeling of potential new policies and innovative solutions for improved education outcomes as part of DCEdEx’s work to empower all Arizona students to maximize their potential, experience an excellent quality of life and contribute to healthy and vibrant communities.

Working with a growing team, uses research expertise and advanced data analytics, including predictive and explanatory/causal models, to have a direct social impact. Advances and communicates the Center’s mission of bringing data, university resources, and stakeholders together to understand the current state of the educational system and implement positive change.

Salary Range

$140,000 - $165,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Use predictive modeling, trend analysis and other data analysis techniques to answer research questions related to education systems, pre-K through employment, seeking to improve student outcomes and have significant social impact
  • Conduct and manage sophisticated data analysis for modeling the educational system and evaluating the impact of innovations and interventions intended to expand student success
  • Work closely with stakeholders and data partners across school districts, the University and the region to translate shared goals and vision into a clear research strategy, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Supervise implementation of the research plan to ensure cohesive, efficient, and deadline-driven project execution
  • Take on individual project responsibilities while guiding and collaborating with other team members’ work and ensuring high quality, timely outcomes. Provides training as necessary.
  • Prepare and manage reports, dashboards and presentations that clearly articulate findings to diverse audiences
  • Performther projects or duties as needed or directed

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree or equivalent experience in Statistics, Computer or Data Science, Social Sciences, Education or a related field and Ten (10) years of related data analysis experience and three (3) years of supervisory experience, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of all levels of the US education system and the challenges facing administrators, educators and students
  • Knowledge of and experience in complex data visualization and knowledge of predictive modeling tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of statistics, research design and methods
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders across the educational landscape both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to utilize database software and statistical programs such as SQL, R, and Python
  • Ability to learn new data science techniques and skills to meet organizational needs
  • Experience using data analytics to and ability to accurately and reliably interpret data for determining appropriate action
  • Experience managing others in a supervisory and/or project management capacity
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with a cross-functional team to drive the implementation and execution of projects

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse

Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.

Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

May be required to perform tasks at partner offices, in the field within and/or across University campuses.

Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
