  • TITLE : Elementary School Principal CLASSIFICATION: Certified

    SALARY : Administrator Salary Scale WORK YEAR: 260 Days

    REPORTS TO : Chief of Schools

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    The Elementary School Principal shall use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student. The Elementary School principal shall use goal setting and research based action planning to improve the academic performance of students, along with all other key school success indicators. A primary function of The Principal includes the improvement of instruction, monitoring of the standards-based curriculum, designing ongoing professional development, facilitating collaboration among teachers and staff and developing and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders. The principal is responsible for the outcomes of all day-to-day operations as well as managing all other fiscal priorities. The highest priority of the elementary school principal is to build and ensure a culture of high aspirations and expectations by executing systems designed to prepare students for college and career readiness.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Professional Educator License with Principal (Pk-12) Endorsement
    • Masters degree from an accredited college or university
    • Two or more years of experience as a Principal (preferred)
    • Exemplary administrative performance evaluations
    • Outstanding reference relative to demonstrated knowledge of current instructional and curricular methodologies
    • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation
    • Extensive successful teaching experience at the Elementary and Middle School level, and preferably in more than one subject area or grade level. (preferred)
    • Successful administrative experience at the Elementary School level. (preferred)
    • Three or more years of experience working with a diverse school population.

    KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
    • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
    • Knowledge of Elementary school curriculum and concepts.
    • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.
    • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.
    • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
    • Ability to develop and implement projects.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
    • Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
    • Ability to manage and plan for school based budgets, and student activity funds.
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Job Functions)

    T he Elementary School Principal shall:
  • Exemplify leadership aligned with proficiency of The Illinois Performance Standards for School Leaders.
  • Conducting interviews to ensure that all staff positions are filled with highly qualified staff.
  • Observe and monitor instruction daily and provides feedback using the district TDD (Teacher Development Dialogue)
  • Execute all day to day operations and systems with urgency and vigor.
  • Administer the general policies and regulations of the school district.
  • Plan and participate in activities involving groups and individuals to improve existing curriculum by which recommendations are formulated.
  • Fulfill the duties and legal responsibilities to children and their parents in accordance with laws, rules, and procedures required by the Superintendent and his/her staff.
  • Cultivate good public relations and keep abreast of educational trends and practices.
  • Prepare and execute ongoing professional development for all teachers and staff within the building.
  • Conduct staff evaluations and submit such ratings to the Human Resources Department.
  • Prepare a schedule for all teachers, including specialized and itinerant staff.
  • Organize the time and room schedules of all teachers and programs in such a way that the goals of education can be achieved in a flexible program.
  • Prepare and manage an annual school for the operation of his/her building.
  • Adhere to the all district policy on (i.e.discipline, student activities, donations,solicitation etc.)
  • Manage and supervise all support staff (i.e. custodial, security, office staff, etc.)
  • Maintain a system of internal accounting for school for school funds, where accounts are needed according to the accounting system developed for all district schools.
  • Submit reports to the Chief of Schools concerning staff fiscal needs, and other information as specified.
  • Make a daily inspection of his/her building, checking for safety factors, sanitary conditions, maintenance, and operation of the school.
  • Conduct fire and disaster drills as required by the Illinois School Code 10-20.22.
  • Perform such other functions as necessary to maintain an effective operation of the school.

  • Additional Duties:

    Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Chief of Schools.
