SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.   • Plans, organizes and implements all Franklin City School Board goals and objectives; executes all activities toward achievement of established goals and objectives; develops and implements School policies and procedures.

  • Provides effective leadership to the community in fulfilling the goals and objectives as such relates to the short and long-range initiatives of the School Board.

  • Effectively demonstrates satisfactory or above performance on the principal evaluation, keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals, and discussing trends of mutual interest with others in the field.

  • Plans, directs, and conducts staff meetings to discuss policy changes, instructional programs, potential problems, and resolutions of existing problems and other school related issues; interprets and ensures all district policies, State Statutes, and State Board Rules are adhered to; submits instructional reports to the superintendent.

  • Participates in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's personnel; supervises and evaluates the performance of all personnel annually, according to board policy.

  • Establishes policies and procedures to provide control and leadership in the event of school crisis and /or civil disobedience.

  • Establishes guidelines for desirable student conduct with respect to the district's suspension and expulsion policy and procedures; establishes and implements attendance, conduct, disciplinary, health, and medication procedures.

  • Communicates with transportation, special education and other special services.

  • Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence, media releases, and keeps the Superintendent or his designee abreast of school activities and concerns.

  • Develops and participates in School Advisory Councils, Parent-Teacher Organizations, and other community groups promoting the enhancement and development of school programs; develops positive school/community relations.

  • Directs and manages the guidance program, testing program, and curriculum to enhance individual student education and development; supervises the school's teaching process, i.e., master schedule and teaching assignments based on student needs.

  • Administers the policies and procedures of documentation and reporting functions of school records, e.g., Pupil attendance, school budget, expenditure of funds.

  • Develops long-range and short-range facility needs at assigned school; directs the establishment of adequate property/inventory records and assumes the responsibility for the safety, care, and maintenance of assigned school.

  • Leads and manages the development of personnel through training, in-service, and other developmental activities that are linked to student results, the school improvement plans, code of conduct, principles of professional conduct, individual professional development plans, etc.

  • Plans, prepares, and analyzes an annual school budget request and monitors the expenditures of allocated funds.

  • Performs other duties as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Ability to understand, follow and direct written and oral instructions.

Expert knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations governing academic administrative policies and procedures.

Expert knowledge of administrative principles, practices and procedures of all phases of academic administration; considerable knowledge of recent developments, current literature and informational resources in the field of academic administration.

Skill in exercising sound judgment and discretion in decision making throughout all phases of responsibilities.

Skill in effectively planning, directing and supervising a staff comprised of professional and management engaged in carrying out school functions.

Skill in establishing and maintaining a professional effective working relationship with instructional staff, all levels of personnel, School Board members and the general public.

Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications; ability to read, update and maintain various records and files.

Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.

Knowledge of business English and spelling; knowledge of basic math.
Skill in clearly communicating information both verbally and in writing.

Skill in performing duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic; ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to work flexible hours necessary for the efficient operation of the department.

Expert knowledge of basic school district work policies and guidelines; expert knowledge of school Board practices and procedures.

Education / Certifications / Experience Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, or an academic discipline; supplemented by four (4) to five (5) years progressively responsible professional experience in the leadership, organization and supervision of academic affairs, to include but not limited to coordination and management of curriculum and budget development of academic programs within a similar education institution; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Successful completion of certification in Administration/Supervision, Educational Leadership, or School Principal.
