    Southside Technical Center is currently seeking and interviewing qualified applicants to teach Health Sciences. The persons hired will be placed in teaching positions at 1 of 4 locations; Bryan Station High School, Frederick Douglass High School, Tates Creek High School or at Southside Technical Center. At our satellite locations STC provides the program support with oversight of the program equipment, supplies and enrollment. The satellite campus administration provides student support and family support. The position would be a full-time position for the 2021-2022 school year with a start date in late July/early August.

    Brief Job Description: Teach occupational preparatory classes within the Health Sciences Pathway that will include; Principles of Health Science, Medical Terminology, and Emergency Procedures, Allied Health Core Skills and MNA.

    Description:
    Teaches occupational preparatory classes within a career and technical education program; and performs other duties as required. To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

    Job Summary:
    • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
    • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
    • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
    • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor
    • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
    • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students
    • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
    • Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
    • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
    • Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required
    • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
    • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
    • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
    • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
    • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates job performance
    • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
    • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required
    • Maintains regular attendance
    • Performs other duties as assigned
    Qualifications:
    • Must Hold the Kentucky teaching certificate in the subject area to be taught; Health Science or Allied Health
    OR
    • Must hold a Kentucky Statement of Eligibility in the subject area to be taught; Health Science or Allied Health
    OR
    • Must qualify for Kentucky Teaching Certification in the subject area to be taught: Health Science
      • Work experience requirements as listed below
      • A minimum of an Associate Degree or technical diploma with clinical training
      • Current certification, registration and/or licensure in health field of study
      • Certified Instructor for First Aid and CPR (may pursue upon employment)

    Work Experience Required
    • Four years of appropriate work experience, two years of experience completed within the last five years. May be required to complete a 64 hour credit program at an approved university leading to initial teacher certification. As an employee of the Technical Center, the college course work would be compensated through the state of Kentucky. A maximum of one year of the required work experience may be satisfied by completion of an accredited vocational preparation program for the occupation to be taught.
      • Professional health care professions eligible to teach the secondary health science program/Allied Health major: Registered Nurse; Medical Assistant; Physician's Assistant; Respiratory Therapist; Medical Laboratory Technician; Licensed Practical Nurse (Associate Degree); Radiological Technologist
    • One year of documented long term care facility experience is preferred.
    Special Requirements for Medicaid Nurse Aid Course: Must have current RN license in Kentucky and meet applicable accrediting body state and federal requirements.

    Working Conditions:
