Additional Information: This is a REPLACEMENT contract for no longer than the 2020-21 school year or until the person returns from leave, which ever occurs first.


Summary:
This position determines type and degree of hearing impairment and implements habilitation and rehabilitation services for students.


Responsibilities:
1. Administers and interprets a variety of tests such as air and bone conduction, and speech reception and discrimination tests, to determine type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech.
2. Evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from physicians, families, teachers, speech pathologists, and other professionals to determine communication problems related to hearing disability.
3. Plans and implements prevention, habilitation, or rehabilitation services, including hearing aid selection and orientation, counseling, auditory training, lip reading, speech conversation, and other treatment programs developed in consultation with speech pathologist and other professionals.
4. Assists families with referrals to physician or physician specialist if medical treatment is determined necessary.
5. Evaluates the effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve benefit as spelled out on IEP goals and objectives.
6. Maintains records for all assigned students; records treatment, response, and progress on a daily basis; maintains other records as required by the district, state or federal law; maintains confidentiality.
7. Confers with physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information; suggest revisions in treatment program; integrates treatment program with other aspects of student's rehabilitation program; works as a team with the student, family, teachers, special education staff, and other health care practitioners to help the student achieve acquired goals; instructs students and families in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
8. Requisitions, repairs, and replaces audiology supplies and equipment.
9. Provides direction to assigned educational assistants, as needed.
10. Serves as a resource for audiology matters; serves on committees (including IEP teams); serves as a consultant to classroom teachers; participates in meetings as assigned.
11. Participates in the development of objectives, standards, and procedures in the district audiology program and in planning, implementing, and evaluating audiology services to be provided in each assigned school.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

1. Maintains professional competence through continuing education activities; maintains audiologist license/certification/registration; keeps apprised of current legislation pertaining to audiology practice; maintains membership in professional organizations.
2. Performs related duties as assigned.


Other information:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in audiology from an accredited college or university; a Master's degree is desired; experience as an audiologist in a public school setting is preferred; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of state and federal laws concerning the provision of health care in public schools.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding students in special education.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to obtain, clarify, and exchange information.
Ability to plan and organize work and set priorities.
Ability to communicate effectively with students with special needs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.

Required Licenses/Special Requirements
Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment.
Current Washington State audiologist license.
Valid Washington State audiologist certificate.
Valid Washington State drivers license and access to personal transportation.

Working Conditions
May be required to deal with distraught parents/students; may be exposed to infectious diseases; required to travel between schools.
