Job Summary
As a school psychologist, works to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students. Identifies and assesses the learning, development, and adjustment characteristics and needs of individuals and groups, as well as, the environmental factors that affect learning and adjustment. Provides interventions to students to support the teaching process and to maximize learning and adjustment. Assists in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs. Delivers a planned and coordinated program of psychological services.
For the OPWDD Residential programs, will be responsible for the assessment and behavior intervention needs of persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, under the clinical supervision of a Licensed Psychologist.

Essential Job Duties:
As a School Psychologist:
  • Provide counseling, instruction, and mentoring for those struggling with social, emotional, and behavioral problems.
  • Complete Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans for students.
  • Increase achievement by assessing barriers to learning and determining the best instructional strategies to improve learning
  • Promote wellness and resilience by reinforcing communication and social skills, problem solving, anger management, self-regulation, self-determination, and optimism.
Work With Students and Their Families to:
1) Identify and address learning and behavior problems that interfere with school success
2) Evaluate eligibility for special education services (within a multidisciplinary team)
3) Support students' social, emotional, and behavioral health
4) Collect and analyze data related to school improvement, student outcomes, and accountability
requirements
For the OPWDD Residential programs:
  • Complete psychological evaluation assessments, trauma screens, dementia screens, and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) as requested.
  • Develop Behavior Support Plans (BSP), Medication Monitoring Plans (MMP), Behavior Protocols based on outcome of FBA and per regulatory requirements.
  • Design and oversee data collection and reporting for BSP's, MMPs, Behavior Protocols, including input of information into electronic records (Therap)
  • Ensure compliance with e.g. informed consent regulations, diagnostic screening oversight, and Behavior Support Plan reviews.
  • Complete staff consultation and training regarding implementation of plans and other related topics.
  • Maintain communication with staff/program planning teams via staff meetings, site visits, life plan meetings and/or electronic documentation and communication.
  • Prepare needed information and participate in scheduled meetings/committees (e.g. Human Rights Committee, DDAWNY Behavioral Support Committee)

Minimum Education Requirement:
  • Masters Degree

Experience:
  • One (1) year prior experience with individuals with I/DD and/or behavior health diagnosis is preferred

Required License/Registration/ Certification:
  • Valid NYSED School Psychologist certificate
  • Valid NYS Driver's License
