Job Description

Position Overview
As we think about the role instructional technology will continue to play in helping us reach our goals for growth and impact, our vision is: over the next 3-5 years, the vast majority of our schools will have fundamentally and thoughtfully integrated technology to support great teaching and to improve student learning and better prepare KIPP students for success in college and life.    
The Instructional Technology Manager, is a newly created position and will play a significant role in helping us achieve this vision by providing strategic leadership and acting as an internal KIPP champion; sharing innovative tools, practices, and approaches, and encouraging grassroots instructional technology innovation; and supporting adoption occurring throughout our network.  They will work in close partnership with educators and technologists throughout the KIPP network as well as with other KIPP Foundation colleagues supporting our schools.  
The ideal candidate is:  
  • An instructional leader first and foremost, with a focus on student experience, student learning, flawless end-user design, and parent support

The Instructional Technology Manager, will report to the Senior Director of STEM Achievement on the Academic Strategy team and work closely with KIPP colleagues at both Foundation and within regions.  This is a full-time, exempt position. This is a 2-year fixed term role until June 2023. While there may be opportunity to continue the role beyond that time, it is not guaranteed.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
KIPP's Instructional Technology Manager, will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the KIPP network's efforts to integrate and leverage innovative instructional technology and acting as an internal KIPP champion.  The specific priorities and sequencing of these priorities will be informed by (a) listening to feedback and guidance from our network and (b) understanding both broader market trends and the state of instructional technology within KIPP.  They will have three specific areas of responsibility:  
Deepen the capacity of our Academics teams, systems, and structures to deliver on high-quality instruction
  • Creating resources to build, support, and sustain regional and network instructional practices and systems leveraging instructional technologies  
  • Partnering with academic leaders to design and iterate systems that support high quality academic programs  
  • Building a vision of instructional technology across the network in service of our 2025 Goals  
  • Creating opportunities for teachers who are successful integrating technology into their classroom to share best practices around data use and management, planning, implementation success factors, etc.    
Promoting learning and sharing by serving as a clearinghouse for information regarding technology innovation  
  • Identifying and evaluating innovative tools and practical uses of technology in instruction and continuously researching the landscape of online curricula and programs (and data management tools), spanning subject areas and grade levels, in use both inside and outside of KIPP.    
  • Sharing and disseminating this research on tools, programs, ideas, and practices with KIPP schools and regions leveraging our KIPP Share knowledge sharing platforms and existing forums  
  • Codifying knowledge and learning about practices and approaches from early instructional technology adopters, both inside and outside KIPP.    
  • Over time, in partnership with internal and / or external researchers, evaluating the impact of technology innovation  
Supporting the adoption and integration of instructional technology in both new and existing KIPP schools  
  • Target learning and sharing opportunities for founding school leaders; and supporting technology-focused founding school leaders as new leaders prepare for their school opening in partnership with KIPP's Academic teams, creating learning and professional development opportunities; providing targeted on-site support and counseling at school and regional level in partnership with KIPP's Academic teams  
  • Providing counsel to school and regional operations staff preparing for and implementing an instructional technology program from an operational perspective, e.g., revisiting schedules, facility upgrades, device choice, program integration, eRate, etc.   
Support strategic partnership opportunities with funders and product developers  
  • Partner with KIPP's national Development team to seek out funding opportunities related specifically to technology innovation on behalf of KIPP schools and regions.  
  • Engage with partners and vendors to ensure customer input (from thoughtful, demanding KIPP teachers) is informing their development efforts and leading to better instructional platforms and data management products (for the benefit of KIPP and educators beyond KIPP)  
Experience Qualifications
Strong emphasis will be placed on this individual's demonstrated track record in driving impact and leading and managing major, complex efforts requiring strong process and project management as well as significant stakeholder engagement and management in fast-paced, dynamic, results-oriented team environment.  
 The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:  
  • 5+ years work experience, preferably with relevant experience in technology and in K-12 education  
  • Passion for technology as well as domain expertise and experience in leveraging instructional technology and in working in blended learning environments  
  • Desire to work closely with KIPP schools and regions and travel up to 25-35% of time  
  • A belief in KIPP's core mission and vision  
  • Deep commitment to racial justice, with experience centering equity in driving work

  • Team player. Proven success in partnering with multiple colleagues, across organizations and teams on complex, challenging projects with limited resources.

Location 
Location is flexible as position is remote. We also have offices in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.
