About the Rio Grande Valley:  

Since 2000, IDEA Public Schools has grown from a school of 150 students in Donna, TX, to the fastest- growing family of tuition-free, public charter schools in the United States. In the Rio Grande Valley, we are a nucleus of four counties (Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy Counties) that work as one unit to support our children academically and holistically.   

  RGV is home to a population of just over 1.3 million residents. Children across the region truly benefit from IDEA's mission of college for all, as only 1 out of 17 students currently graduate college ready. Our mission holds true as we have over 5,000 IDEA alumni that currently attend, or have graduated from, 300 colleges and universities across the country.

Role Mission:   

The  Healthy Kids Here  (HKH)  Regional Coordinator   is primarily responsible fo r coordination and implementation of grant activities associated  the Healthy Kids Here initiative in the Rio Grande Valley .  The HKH Coordinator will work co llaboratively with school staff to support HKH grant  projects as well as supporting ongoing HKH activities in the region.  

This is a grant-funded position with  guaranteed funding through December 202 2.  

The  Healthy Kids Here  Coordinator  will report directly to  the Healthy Kids Here Program Manager.  

Accountabilities :

1. 100% Grant Compliance Measures Met 
  • Ensure all documentation is collected,  tracked , and proper ly   stored  
  • Develop organizational systems to ensure all  data collection and monitor progress towards  goals  
  • Meet all  grant and program   deadlines  

2. Coordinates & fosters partnerships with key stakeholders as part of the Healthy Kids Here team 
  • Work with grant partners  (Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation, Unidos Contra La Diabetes, and others)  to implement program activities at IDEA campuses  for IDEA Team & Family- Students, their families, and  staff  
  • Work with regional & campus staff to ensure HKH  and grant  program  success  
  • Support Health Aides and campuses in health promotion activities and programming  

3. Ensures 100% success of grant objectives by working with key stakeholders. 
  • Increase frequency & quality of health communication with  parents  
  • Expand physical education program to increase the amou nt  of time students spend doing moderate to vigorous physical (MVPA)  activity  
  • Improve individual health indicator for parents and students participating in program activities such as Diabetes Prevention Program,  Healthy Drinks campaign, IDEA 5k & Healthy Living Expo as well as other HKH activities .  
  • Increase staff capacity for health initiatives by providing training, technical ass istance, programming and in-person  support  

4. Partner with Healthy Kids Here Program Manager in ensuring distribution of Student Health Report Cards to 100% of families 
  • Collect, track and analyze data needed to populate student health report card. This may include but is not limited to assisting with height and weight screenings, calculating BMI, and logging results in an EHR system 

5. Support RGV campuses in reaching their HKH Goals 
  • Lead and support HKH events and programming on  campuses  
  • Support campus Health Aides with implementation of HKH   Campus  Committee s , AHG Applications, and campus   events ensuring 100% completion by the end of the  year  
  • Visit RGV campuses  monthly to support HKH and grant programming.

  Qualifications:  
  • Must be willing to travel  within RGV region  on average  25 % of the time with peak seasons at  50 %    
  • Education  required :  Bachelor's  Degree  
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate professionally in English & Spanish.  
  • Experience  collaborating with  other to achieve goals  and working as part of a  team  
  • Proven track record of success  
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Experience navigating relationships and partnerships  successfully  

  Experience:  
  • 2 +  year s'  experience  in health promotion and health program implementation
  • Experience in health care  preferred  
  • Experience with school-age children  preferred  

Compensation: 
  • Salaries for this role typically fall between $40,000 and $46,000, c ommensurate with relevant experience and qualifications.
