Brief Description   The Educational Diagnostician provides an array of educational services to students including achievement testing, educational consultation, and academic intervention in accordance with both best practices and the policies and regulations of the School Board.     
 
Detailed Description The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
• Administers diagnostic educational evaluations to assess the academic functioning and educational needs of students and writes comprehensive educational reports; holds parent conferences to provide interpretation of educational assessment findings.
• Participates as an active member of the Child Study Team to effect school-based interventions for general education students; attends eligibility meetings to assist in the determination that a child has a disability and needs special education services.
• Consults and collaborates with school administration, instructional staff, and parents regarding the individual educational, academic, and behavioral needs of students utilizing curriculum-based measurement and instructional consultation approaches.
• Serves as a division consultant for Response to Intervention (RTI); assists in the implementation and coaching of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), as needed.
• Provides workshops and trainings for school staff and administrators.
Job Requirements Below are the qualifications for this position:
• Master's Degree in special education or related field emphasizing assessment, learning theory, and instructional and behavioral interventions
• Holds or is eligible for the Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in special education or a related area
• Has extensive experience in educational assessment, instruction, and consultation as a teacher or educational diagnostician
• Demonstrates strong oral and written communication abilities and productive time management skills
• Possesses leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and colleagues
• Proven expertise in curriculum-based assessment and instructional interventions
• Knowledgeable of RTI and PBIS frameworks for instructional and behavioral interventions
• Elementary teaching experience strongly preferred
• Bilingual skills in Spanish is highly desirable but not required

The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

This is an End-of-Year (EOY) contract position.
