INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALIST for School Improvement

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Instructional Specialist for School Improvement within the Office of Federal Programs & Grants.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Master's degree in Education or a related field preferred.
  3. New Jersey Permanent Teacher Certification.
  4. Three (3) to five (5) or more years of experience in school improvement initiatives and/or data analysis.

Newark Public Schools seeks an Instructional Specialist to work with the NPS Office of Federal Programs and Grants in supporting key initiatives and programs.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with expertise in school improvement, data and operations to have a lasting impact on Newark's students and families. This position may also be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

The Instructional Specialist will support the work of the Office of Federal Programs in a number of ways including:
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the School Improvement grants and initiatives.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee implementation of project goals, objectives and program activities.
  • Establish and maintain a high level of communication amongst all project partners.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate workshops and professional development opportunities related to school improvement for district staff.
  • Participate in development of school improvement grant applications.
  • Facilitate obtaining resources for school locations related to school improvement, curricular initiatives and curricular programs, tracking towards budgets.
  • Collaborate with team members to assist in developing programs and implement models designed to meet the goals of the grant.
  • Assist in vetting responses to Pre-Qualification Solicitations for materials and services.
  • Support strategic partnerships with key community and philanthropic partners.
  • Assist in developing and leading strategic partnerships with key internal and external partners to improve resource options for the district's schools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Strong goal-orientation and focus on results, thrives in achievement-oriented and fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding critical thinking skills, including the ability to analyze data, identify trends, pinpoint problems and root causes, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Excellent execution and project management skills, including ability to balance the big picture with detailed steps.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

Salary, Terms & Affiliation

Salary: $62,364-$114,195 - This position is competitive and based on experience.
Period: Twelve (12) Months
Affiliation: Newark Teachers Union (NTU)
