General Statement of Duties:
Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, March 8, 2021.
Plans and supervises therapeutic recreation programs; assists in the development and administration of the therapeutic/inclusion recreation program on a County-wide basis in an hourly capacity; does related work as required.

Essential Duties:
Sports Tourism Specialist - This position will work with the Tourism Section of Henrico County Recreation and Parks, assisting with tournament preparation and support at county athletic facilities including but not limited to Glover Park, Dorey Park, and RF&P Park.
Work Hours - This is an hourly position that will require the ability to work nights and weekends. Hours scheduled per week will vary but may not exceed 29 hours worked.
Examples of Assigned Duties - The successful applicant will need to be able to:
  • Attend local and regional sports tournaments and tourism events that would require weekend and night work;
  • Serve as the on-site point-of-contact for tournament organizers at county facilities such as Dorey Park, Glover Park, and Glen Allen Stadium at RF&P Park;
  • Provide operational and logistical support before, during, and after major athletic events at county park and school facilities;
  • Work with Park Services during tournament preparation, including but not limited to equipment set-up, ballfield preparation (raking infields, assisting with pulling tarps, etc.), and creating work orders in the county system;
  • Provide assistance with research on tournament leads and industry trends;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with county staff, tournament directors, and regional partners;
  • Create facility usage agreements with assistance and guidance from Sports Tourism Coordinator;
  • Assist with tracking data related to economic impact and total visitors from sports tourism events hosted by Henrico County;
  • Maintains a considerable knowledge of Henrico County athletic facilities and national, regional, and local tournament groups;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of the sports tourism industry;
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer-service skills;
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment while also being able to function with self-direction and accountability;
  • Proficiency with the MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduation from high school required; some college preferred;
  • At least 1-2 years' experience working in sports and/or special events.

Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in recreation or a field directly related to the needs of the assigned position, and one (1) year of related work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Additional Information:
This is an hourly position. Hours will not exceed 29 hours per week.
First Aid, CPR, AED certifications required. Training provided if necessary.
Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds to move supplies and equipment as needed.
Requires a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license.
