Title : Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

Reports to : Superintendent of Schools

Supervises : Curriculum Directors, Director of Innovative Technology, Director of Data Processing Services, Adult Education Coordinator, CIA staff and others as assigned

Job Description :

The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment will provide supervision and support in the areas of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), student growth, school improvement, professional learning, and leadership development. Underlying these areas is a need for thoughtful leadership related to innovation, curriculum development, strategic instructional improvement, and data guided decision-making.

The successful candidate must work effectively as a member of multiple teams, embrace the principle of equity for all, and have the ability to thrive in a collaborative culture. Additionally, the final candidate must have a deep understanding of leadership principles related to school reform, the ability to supervise a balanced assessment system, and be able to lead data collection and analysis functions across multiple areas.

This is a twelve-month, Cabinet Level, administrative position.

Professional Responsibilities:

Specific activities include, but are not limited to the following:

Instructional Leadership

  • Collaborates with the professional staff in the formulation of the philosophy and objectives for the instructional program
  • Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of the instructional program
  • Develops and provides direction for the District's strategic initiatives in curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Maintains a fluency in research and trends in curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Supervises data collection, analysis and reporting at the elementary and secondary levels
  • Develops and aligns Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in order to achieve continuity of the instructional program

Personnel

  • Provides direction to non-building based personnel assigned to the area of curriculum, instruction, data collection, and technology
  • Assists the Superintendent in evaluating building principals
  • Evaluates teachers and other staff (as needed)
  • Manages the APPR system in collaboration with the Human Resource Department
  • Participates in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of instructional personnel

Administration

  • Assists with the preparation of the District's annual budget as related to the instructional program
  • Acts as a District Complaint Officer for Title VII and Title IX
  • Conducts 3214 student disciplinary hearings (as needed)
  • Writes and submits Federal Grants applications (e.g., Title Grants, ESL)
  • Supervises all aspects of home schooling
  • Directs the organization and supervision of the Arlington Summer School

Staff Development

  • Provides leadership for the District's Professional Development Plan and related assessments
  • Coordinates summer curricular and instructional initiatives
  • Meets regularly with building leaders on matters related to the K-12 instructional program
  • Coordinates the planning of Superintendent's Conference Days, workshops, and other in-service programs

Community Relations

  • Attends all Board of Education meetings and provides reports to the Board as requested by the Superintendent
  • Facilitates the District Equity Team
  • Attends community events as directed by the Superintendent
  • Interprets the curriculum for the Board of Education, the administration, the staff, and the general public

Assumes other job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

A competitive salary commensurate with experience will be offered.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications :

  • New York State Certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL)
  • At least 10 years of successful experience in education including teaching and building leadership experience
  • Ed.D., Psy.D., Ph.D. in a relevant educational field preferred
