Insight PA Cyber Charter School is seeking an IT/Programming instructor to teach high school students in a virtual setting. Instructor must have 4 years documented programming experience, degree preferred. Instructor will be responsible for teaching courses in Python, HTML/CSS3, and Java Script. Students completing the program will possess a basic technical foundation needed to pursue postsecondary degrees leading to a career as a software developer, analyst project leader or in the management of information technologies. Students may prefer to immediately enter the labor market in an entry-level position as developer or analyst. Working with high school students is preferred. Working in a virtual setting would be beneficial.

The Teacher is a highly qualified, PA state certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. Teachers provide instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. Teachers monitor student progress through K12’s learning management system, and they actively work closely with students and parents/Learning Coaches to advance each student’s learning toward established goals The Health Professions program is part of our Career and Technical Education pathways and consists of courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Nursing Assistant, Medical Terminology, and Healthcare Explorations. The Health Professions program also offers industry certifications as a Certified Nurse Assistant and Pharmacy Technician. HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America is also an integral part of our program. Requirements for this position shall be a graduate of an approved school of professional nursing and currently licensed as an RN in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Minimum 4 years of related industry experience is required.

Teachers who live within commuting distance may choose to report to our Exton office two days per week for an additional stipend.

Essential Functions

  • Take ownership for student’s academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in student’s achievement
  • Prepare students for high stakes standardized tests
  • Conduct live Synchronous Teaching – minimum of 15 hours per week
  • Asynchronously support objectives, including composing/sending emails, planning course objectives, preparing learning plans, and using data to determine student needs
  • Collaborate with local/regional/ national teams and instructional coaches regarding instruction, resources, interventions and data-driven decision making
  • Make self open and available to be coached on a regular basis with administrators and instructional coaches
  • Under guidance from principal and coach, augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools
  • Submit grades and required student work ensuring student academic honesty and integrity
  • Maintain grade book
  • Make placement and promotion decisions by generating formal and informal reports regarding student progress, alerting administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with students and learning coaches/parents on an ongoing regular basis
  • Support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment, in line with academy policies and procedures
  • Support students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment including basic computer troubleshooting
  • Understand how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among the stakeholders
  • Respond to students, parents and colleagues in timely manner
  • Organize social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs, outings, marketing events or other extracurricular activities as required
  • Travel to testing sites to proctor state exams

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no regular supervisory responsibilities.

If selected, you will participate in a year-long, comprehensive new teacher training and induction program that includes learning about K12 resources, our culture and how to work on our platforms. This program provides an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment.You will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12’s learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child’s learning.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • 4 years of full-time experience in the IT/Computer Programming field within the last 10 years
  • Must be willing to earn teacher certification in vocational education per PDE requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel at least once per month within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations.
  • An ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g., database and web-based tools)

  • Experience working with the proposed age group
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • Experience working in a virtual environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools
  • Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment
  • Familiar with Blackboard Collaborative or other online platforms

Certificates and Licenses
  • Appropriate PA state teaching certification for the grade level/subject content required
