JOB GOAL: The goal of this position is to increase the number of Queen Creek High School students successfully planning and gaining entry into their post-secondary school or career of choice. The successful candidate will follow the National Office for School Counselor Advocacy's Eight Components of College and Career Readiness Counseling.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Five or more years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
  • Master's in Counseling and three or more years successful experience as a high school counselor
  • Possess an ability to market the preparedness of students as well as the strong academic track record of Queen Creek High School
  • Use data to inform practice, be equitable in time spent with students, and work system-wide to develop a college and career ready culture
  • Strong understanding of and comfort with the use of technology in an educational setting
  • A strong work ethic

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
  1. Advising Freshman through Seniors on their post-secondary options based on multiple data sources.
  2. Provide assistance with college and university application processes for two year, four year, and technical colleges.
  3. Coordinating Queen Creek High School's administration of college and career exams, including but not limited to the PreACT, PSAT, ACT, SAT, ACT Work Keys, Advanced Placement.
  4. Coordinating Queen Creek High School College and Career campus visits to in state and out of state post secondary institutions.
  5. Coordinate College and Employer visits to Queen Creek High School's campus for the benefit of students.
  6. Writing letters of recommendation for Queen Creek High School Juniors and Seniors.
  7. Maintain knowledge and proficiency in the use of current online tools and resources that assist students with gaining college entrance and employment.
  8. Work within Major Clarity to record, update, and display student college and career goals.
  9. Provide students current information about employment opportunities and labor market trends through the use of local, state, and federal resources.
  10. Work with our CTE Director to develop relationships with employers in order to place students in internships during their Senior year.
  11. Participate in career fairs, on-site visits to local companies, and college events that increase visibility and awareness of Queen Creek High School.
  12. Serve on our AVID Site Team and other committees at the request of the Building Principal and Superintendent.
  13. Provide information sessions for students about college applications, scholarships, and life on a college campus.
  14. Provide career skill building workshops for students in areas such as resume writing, problem solving, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, literacy, digital literacy, leadership, and emotional intelligence.
  15. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with students, staff, parents and post-secondary institutions as well as community resources.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration.
