    TWILIGHT ACADEMY AT NORWALK HIGH SCHOOL

    Job Description:

    Due to special circumstances created for some students during this unprecedented time, the Norwalk Public Schools will implement a Twilight Academy for the 2020-2021 school year to provide core content curriculum instruction for district-wide grade 11 and 12 students who cannot currently follow their traditional school schedule (in person or remote) due to responsibilities (working or child-care responsibilities). The structure of the day will allow for five 45-minute periods and students will register for courses in which credit is required towards graduation.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Provides daily SEL instruction using approved materials and resources by the Department of Pupil Services
    • Sets and reinforces clear expectations and routines
    • Assists and facilitates to manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
    • Prepares SEL lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom and assists and consults with general education teachers to ensure access to instruction for students with disabilities
    • Designs and provides individual and small group counseling groups to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings following CASEL guidelines
    • Provides outreach and support to students and their guardians
    • Provides referrals and facilitates wrap around services with community-based agencies
    • Collaborates to designs and implements assessments that measure progress and uses assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practices
    • Assesses student learning on a continual basis and identifies areas of intervention if needed
    • Establishes and maintains professional relationships
    • Participates in professional learning and co-planning offered by the Twilight Academy
    • Submits attendance, assessment/achievement information, progress notes in a timely manner
    • Demonstrates strong knowledge of SEL instruction
    • Prepares progress reports and IEP updates as required for schools, parents and the curriculum office and reports information for transcripts to home school counselor
    • Maintains accurate and complete records, as required
    • Keeps Supervisor up-to-date on student progress and attendance
    • Provides interventions and collaborates within the content area classrooms or academic assistance classes serving all students in the academy

    Required Qualifications:
    • Valid Connecticut teaching certification as a School Social Worker
    • Expertise in SEL using CASEL guidelines
    • Provides SEL and academic assistance with focus on Executive Functioning Skills social emotional development
    • Demonstrated experience with implementing progress monitoring measures.
    • Proven experience in working with teams of educational professionals in collaborative settings.
    • In-depth knowledge of best practices in counseling and SEL development
    • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills in working with students and their families.
    • Sensitivity, understanding and appreciation for the needs and strengths of a diverse school district and community.

    Salary: In accordance with the NFT contract $47/hour for first-time Twilight Academy social workers.
