Wellesley Public Schools seeks an Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning to set the conditions and systems of continuous learning among faculty and students by providing vision, leadership, management, and oversight in the following areas: Educator Evaluation, Curriculum Reviews, Professional Development, Budget, Assessments, Coaching Programs, Title 1, and External Partnerships.

The Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning will provide leadership and system-level oversight for the 14 members of the T&L staff, who will be responsible for development and management in the following areas: Instruction, Professional Development, Data, and Curricular Materials.

A minimum of Master's Degree (Doctorate preferred), five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience and a Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent licensure through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is required.

This position is a 12 month position that reports to the Superintendent of Schools. Salary is paid according to a personal contract and is commensurate with experience. The job duties are listed below:

1. Sets standards of excellence in teaching and learning for each of the disciplines taught in the WPS and oversees the professional development of the faculty that will realize the standards.

2. Acts as a motivating and stimulating force where the need for innovation and improvement in the educational process is needed.

3. Maintains a cycle of review of the curriculum areas as well as the identification and resolutions of needed midcourse corrections and improvements in specific curriculum areas as they arise.

4. Responsible for sound articulation of curriculum from elementary to middle and then to the high school.

5. Utilizes testing and other relevant data to assess program effectiveness as well as managing requirements of NCLB legislation pertaining to assessment. Responsible for monitoring and analyzing standardized test data for the district.

6. Leads and coordinates change processes that allow for effective implementation of changes in the academic programs.

7. Reviews, revises and maintains in coordination with other administrators the professional development offerings provided by the school system.

8. Builds annual budgets and writes grants that will support needed curriculum and professional development.

9. Mentors new administrators in the use of Wellesley's supervisory/evaluation system and supports all administrators in the on-going application of the system to individual cases.

10. Works in coordination with the Director of Student Services so that regular education's curricular and instructional models can be accommodated to meet the needs of students with special needs.

11. Represents the system in relation to a variety of community groups as needed.

12. Annually coordinates the construction of the elementary specialists' schedules.

13. Participates in the process for recommending to the Superintendent, when necessary, the professional personnel to be laid off in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements.

14. Assists the Superintendent in the evaluation of selected personnel in the areas of curriculum development, implementation and instructional improvement.

15. Has supervisory responsibility for Directors of Art, Fitness & Health, Performing Arts, Library/Media, Ell; Instructional Data Coordinator, Professional Development Director, and Materials Coordinator; Elementary Department Heads for Literacy, Mathematics and Science Curriculum Coordinator; Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent.
