SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under supervision of the Family Resource Coordinator and site administrator, provides services to increase parent involvement in their child's education; supports staff in their work with children and families to help meet identified needs and goals; develops, coordinates, and implements various programs and activities related to the needs of the children and families served by the program; supports program goals and objectives in the component areas of health, education, parent involvement, and social service referrals. Incumbent performs related work as required.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans, prioritizes, and provides services including family intake, needs assessments, outreach, referrals, follow-ups, and other related case management services; maintains records and develops reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; prepares statistical reports as required; works with families to identify pertinent issues; conducts family needs assessment; provides parents with community resource information and referrals; conducts home/school visits with families; organizes and supervises parent/child/teacher/community involvement activities; writes, monitors, and reports grant information; ensures the terms of the grants are being followed; Data entry/tracking of all client contact and services provided; supports and maintains the goals and objectives of the Family Resource Center. Assist with the upkeep of case management database system and preparing database reports. In addition, is responsible for the training of new staff, as well as, mentoring of student interns.

Additional duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: providing students and their families with opportunities to access preventative health and human services; collaborates with community agencies to insure that needed services and activities are available to clients; serves as a coordinator of the various services that clients are receiving; participates as a member of the planning team to create appropriate programs for children and their families; works with students and families to improve attendance and academic performance; serves as a case manager for families of children who attend programs offered by the Family Resource Center, acts as a liaison between school, community health and service agencies.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in social work, education, child development, or related field.

  • AND
  • One (1) year of experience in an educational or social service field working with children and families is desirable.

  • Knowledge of: Community resources, procedures for identifying students and families who may need social services, including students with developmental delays or other special needs; family assessment methods and procedures; intervention and direct service activities; consultation methods, and program development strategies. When working in the Appleseed's/Parenting Wisely Program, basic knowledge of infant development/parenting skills is required.

    Skill at: Evaluating and coordinating programs and services; communicating effectively with other agencies, school personnel, students and parents; making accurate assessments; grant writing skills; working with diverse cultures, community involvement and ability to work with other agencies. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are desirable.

    Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Nevada driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the District.

    Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    Work Environment: The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

    Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.

    New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step (step one) of the grade of the position.

    Additional Job Information :

    This is a 27 hour per week, One Year Only positing ending June 2021. This position is grant-funded and is contingent upon continued funding. The hiring administrator may retain incumbent for the duration of the grant without re-advertising.

    Employees who are regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week receive Social Security benefits, and the Salary Increases, Longevity Bonuses, and Credit Union benefits; employees who are regularly scheduled to work 20 to 24.75 hours per week received PERS retirement benefits, and the Salary Increases, Longevity Bonuses and Credit Union benefits listed below; employees who are regularly scheduled to work 25 to 27.25 hours per week receive the benefits listed below, with the exception of Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance; employees who are regularly scheduled to work 27.5 hours per week or more receive full benefits of the District.

    Holiday: Employees receive up to eleven (11) paid holidays each year. Vacation: Employees receive up to twenty (20) days of paid vacation each year. Sick Leave: Employees receive up to fifteen (15) days of paid sick leave each year. Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance: Employees may select an insurance plan wherein WCSD contributes 100% of insurance premiums. Employee paid dependent medical insurance is available for an employee's dependents. Insurance Premiums - Summer Months: WCSD contributes 100% of the district paid portion of employee's insurance premiums for employees who are not scheduled to work in the summer. Life Insurance: The District contributes 100 % of employee's life insurance premiums. Salary Increases: In addition to any negotiated increases each year, employees receive salary increases of approximately 2.85 % each July, for the first fifteen (15) years of employment. Longevity Bonuses: Eligible employees receive annual bonuses as follows: 12-14 years of employment, $700; 15-17 years of employment, $1, 000; 18 + years of employment, $1, 100. Credit Union: Outstanding benefits are available through the Credit Union.

    No State Income Tax. No Social Security deductions for most positions working 20 hours per week or more. Retirement benefit offered is the State of Nevada retirement system, Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), which is one of the best in the country.

    PERS ELIGIBLE POSITIONS:

    Employees who select the employer paid salary schedule (Schedule A) will have Washoe County School District (WCSD) contribute 100% of the employee's retirement contributions. Employees who select the employer-employee paid salary schedule (Schedule B) will have a portion of the legislatively designated amount paid by WCSD to PERS for retirement benefits and the employee, in turn, will pay the remaining portion of the legislatively designated amount of his/her salary to PERS. These options are introduced and explained in detail during the New Employee Orientation upon selection for employment.

    New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.

    Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.
