The Business Manager / Budget Director has responsibility for the Budget Office. The Business Manager / Budget Director will be charged with developing a strategy to increase school based resources in alignment with school-based context and need, implementing an equity-based allocation system for schools, and driving forward with a plan to provide strong training to all budget managers. In addition, the Business Manager / Budget Director will oversee the design, implementation and user adoption for a new software system that aligns local and federal dollars with budget actuals so all users can forecast more effectively, manage their full budget against their department or school goals, and utilize full budgets more effectively. The Business Manager / Budget Director is expected to ensure that all appropriate areas of responsibility, support teaching and learning, are managed in accordance with all School Board Policy. Additionally, the Business Manager / Budget Director will be expected to perform other duties assigned by the Executive Director of Finance or Senior Leadership.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategy to increase discretionary funding for schools.Supervises team of budget coordinators who serve as main points of contact for school leader budget issues.Design and implement a budgeting process that is transparent and based on equity and autonomy at a school level.Design, implement and provide training for a new software for all budget users to forecast and manage their budgets and reduce variance between the forecast and actuals.Articulate a training and customer service plan to ensure fiscal integrity and management across the district.Monitor and development, administration and management of the total district-wide budget.Liaise with teams across the district to ensure strong accountability with performance-based contracts.Assist Administrators with budget development and monitoring.Monitor the contractual and operating relationships between the Providence School Department and its private contractors.Confer with Senior Staff regarding fiscal and collective bargaining matters.Develops, presents and manages the District's Budget.Recommend new policies and procedures as appropriate.Prepare or coordinate financial reports and projections as needed.Performs all additional duties as required.Possess or Able to Attain RIDE School Business Administrator Certification

Salary Rate Range
$111,143 - $118,664

Qualifications
  • MBA or CPA preferred.Experience working in schools, district office, or education organization preferred.Successful experience in areas of organization, administration and project conceptualization and implementation.Excellent organizational and administrative abilities.Excellent communication and customer service orientation.Strong quantitative/financial skills coupled with proven superior analytical abilities.Experience with providing training and support to budget users and managers.Minimum of 5 years' experience with complex budgets and budget process.Knowledge and experience in working with outside service providers.Working knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office software packages.You must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentBilingual PreferredSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.
