NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION :

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Initiatives curriculum committee members to serve as needed from: February 1, 2021 - June 2022:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must be New York State or Buffalo certified in the tenure area of Social Studies (7-12), English Language Arts (7-12), or World Languages (7-12), and be a probationary or tenured teacher. Candidates must have knowledge of the Common Core Learning Standards and knowledge of application of evidenced based culturally responsive practices. It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of their certifications.
  • Priority in the selection of teachers will be given to qualified tenured and probationary Buffalo Public School teachers who are fluent Spanish speakers and/ or have a Bilingual Certification.
  • Candidates must have knowledge of Puerto Rican history and culture, and be willing to engage in research to increase their understanding of Puerto Rican history, culture and language.
  • Candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and demonstrate leadership and interpersonal communication skills with adults.
  • Candidate must have computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel).
  • Candidates should have a strong vision related to academic perseverance for all students, and particularly students of color.


DUTIES :
Curriculum committees will work directly with Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Initiatives and Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction administrators. Committees must complete a variety of assignments within a mandated time frame. Assignments include but are not limited to evaluating instructional materials and developing pertinent curriculum documents aligned to the Learning Standards and associated with Puerto Rican history and culture. Committee members will participate in professional development to increase knowledge and skills required to fulfill responsibilities of related committee work.

APPOINTMENT : Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.

SALARY : Committee members will be paid at the contractual rate.
