NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION :

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of curriculum committee members for the following committee to serve as needed from: FEB 2021 - JUNE 2023:

CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEMBER

Science 7-12

QUALIFICATIONS :

Candidates must hold a New York State certification in the subject area applied for and be currently employed with the Buffalo Public Schools as a tenured teacher, have knowledge of the Common Core Learning Standards and knowledge of application of scientifically-based research. Please upload a copy of your NYS certification(s).

DUTIES :

• Curriculum committees will work directly with subject area and/or curriculum administrators.
• Curriculum committee members must have taught Science 7-12 in the last two years. Preference will be given to teachers who are certified in the specific subject and have instructed that content subject, where the curriculum work needs to be completed. Preference will be given to Science teachers that are currently in the Science Curriculum Committee.

  • Earth Science
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
• Curriculum committee will take part in the textbook adoption process to vet High School Science Textbooks.
• Committees must complete a variety of assignments within a mandated time frame. Assignments include but are not limited to evaluating instructional materials and developing pertinent curriculum documents aligned to the Common Core Learning Standards and the New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS). Curriculum Committee members must be knowledgeable of NYSSLS for their certification area.
• Committee members will participate in professional development to increase knowledge and skills required to fulfill responsibilities of related committee work.

APPOINTMENT :

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.

SALARY : Committee members will be paid at the contractual rate.
