POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE:



Provide social and emotional services to students in the Phoenix Program and Freshman Centers that increases their emotional intelligence, so their learning experiences are optimized. Provide assessment, behavior management, and counseling for students dealing with trauma, emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems.

BASIC FUNCTION:

  • Provide crisis, individual, and/or group counseling for referred Phoenix Program and other credit recovery students
  • Provide tracking and consultation to students, program facilitators, campus administration, and central administration regarding students' attendance, social and emotional issues
  • Utilize various assessment instruments and techniques to assist in identifying appropriate intervention techniques for referred Phoenix and Freshman Center students
  • Provide consultation to school personnel and parents regarding the psychological and social needs of students as they relate to the educational setting and process
  • Assist school staff members with intervention strategies and techniques regarding discipline problems
  • Provide referral information to students and families regarding in-district and out-of-district resources
  • Provide home visits as necessary
  • Provide parent consultation as necessary
  • Identify problems in the home and community that may affect the student's performance and adjustment, as well as consult with community agencies/programs and professionals regarding the need of students
  • Utilize preventive strategies to remove social / emotional barriers to academic success
  • Provide the following in schools when assigned as case facilitator, attend and participate in the Student Support Team (SST) process
  • Provide staff development activities for school personnel and parents
  • Provide crisis intervention services to schools, as necessary
  • Provide student reports to Director, Manager, and Counselors of the Phoenix Program and Freshman Centers
  • Keep abreast of current and emerging professional trends and developments affecting school social work, and recommend modifications that will improve performance
  • Coordinate crisis management efforts to include crisis team training and assignments.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned
  • Monitor ongoing protocol for districtwide campuses'Attendance Review Committee to comply with the FEC policies
  • Monitor on-going collaboration with the coordinators, administrators, and registrars in regards to the 90 Percent Rule
  • Monitor the notification distribution to parents districtwide
  • Ensure that campuses are in compliance with TEA, state, federal and school board policies concerning Attendance for Credit
  • Provide cross-function leadership and technical assistance to managers and to other departments in the division/district through specialized services
  • Meet regularly with Region X coordinators to keep abreast of legislative policies
  • Develop action plans, policies, and procedures to facilitate the attainment of departmental operational targets
  • Meet regularly with Student Initiatives Director to discuss program progress, review data, and identify professional development, budgetary supports and resources needed to assist campus staff
  • Keep abreast of technical, legislative, and professional development opportunities affecting assigned responsibilities
  • Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment /alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees/campus-based positions because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite are essential job duties for all campus-based personnel.

Qualifications

  • Accredited Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Masters Social Worker granted by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners required
  • Two or more years of experience in providing psychological and social services within a school setting, or the equivalent in demonstrated competence, such as experience in the delivery of psychological, social services
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procedures for assessing emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes
  • Demonstrated competence in consultation skills, family system intervention, crisis intervention, and the referral process
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychosocial development
  • Demonstrated training and experience in individual and group counseling techniques as well as interpersonal and team dynamics
  • Able to effectively communicate in oral and written format
  • Able to problem solve at a campus and Learning Community level
  • Knowledge of mental health conditions and appropriate interventions
  • Able to respond to crises in a calm and organized manner
  • Demonstrated competence in crisis management
  • Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world
  • Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession
