    Primary Functions (Job Goal)
    The Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Professional Development leads the district in development of teachers who use best practice in instruction to create success for all students

    Reports To (accountability)

    Superintendent

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Completes evaluations of District Instructional Coaches and Department of Teaching and Learning staff

    Qualifications / Local Requirements

    • Illinois Professional Educator License with a Superintendent Endorsement
    • Doctoral Degree preferred as well as a Master's Degree in an educationally related field (curriculum, educational technology or content area - e.g., reading, language arts, etc.).
    • A minimum of a five (5) years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience at the K-8 level and a minimum of three (3) years of district level administrative experience.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to facilitate teams; ability to work well with administrators, teachers, students, and parents.
    • Ability to articulate, demonstrate, implement and evaluate a professional development program for teachers based on best practice in instruction
    • Demonstrated success in collaborative organizational and educational leadership
    • Proven success in setting and achieving goals collaboratively
    • Demonstrated success in modelling and promoting outstanding teaching practice for both teachers and administrators.
    • Proven capacity to lead, motivate and inspire administrators and teachers to learn and to lead learning.
    • Articulate and implement effective teaching practices which improve the learning outcomes for students.
    • Understand the use of technology in the learning process.
    • Ability and willingness to work independently in flexible environments with short timeline requirements.
    • Ability to work effectively in team situations.
    • Experience in group facilitation, planning, problem solving, coaching and other leadership activities.
    • High degree of approachability, accessibility, responsibility and follow-through on projects.
    • Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment.


    • Demonstrated success using assessment to drive decisions that improve student learning.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education Designee may find appropriate and acceptable.

    • Demonstrate support for the Mission, Beliefs and Goals of District 30-C.
    • Uphold the established Board of Education policies, regulations and administrative procedures.
    • Develop a culture of improvement in teaching and learning by placing learning at the center of strategic and operational planning.
    • Ensure a challenging and strategic curriculum that is supported by creative and responsive teaching and effective learning environments
    • Lead the district in the use of emerging technologies to enhance and extend teaching and learning experiences and to achieve excellence.
    • Collaboratively plan and deliver professional development activities in the areas of teaching and learning.
    • Create training materials to increase the use of best practice in the area of curriculum, assessment and technology.
    • Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, parents, administration, and the community as needed to meet professional standards.
    • Tie instructional practices to data driven decision making.
    • Keep abreast of current research and developments in the fields of teaching and learning and disseminate the information to staff.
    • Support district initiatives by participating in district-level committees and content area program implementation and improvement.
    • Plan and implement district wide mentoring and induction activities.
    • Assist with the preparation of information for grant applications (Federal, State, local) and related materials for general education.Assist with the technology organization necessary to implement district and state- level assessments.

    • Attend local, county and/or state technology conferences, meetings or workshops.
    • Attend meetings, serve on committees, and perform such other duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee and the Board of Education.
    • Administer Board Policy in the absence of the Superintendent
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Terms of Employment
    12 Months - 260 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education FLSA Exempt Position

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
