Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates is assisting the Ankeny, Iowa Community School District as it seeks a dynamic leader as their next superintendent of schools.  The Ankeny Community School District enjoys a reputation as one of the premier school districts in Iowa and the Midwest, with students, staff and parents unified in their efforts to excel in academics, athletics, the arts and activities.

Ankeny’s mission statement clearly states that they are unified in their commitment, passion, and vision so every learner is prepared to achieve a lifetime of personal success. Students excel academically with a graduation rate of 96.4% which is 5% higher that the State of Iowa average.  Ankeny students compiled an ACT average composite score of 23.3.  This is a unique opportunity to lead a growing and progressive school district.

The Ankeny Community School District is located in Polk County, Iowa, six miles north of the capital city of Des Moines encompassing an area of almost 52 square miles. The District has12,250 students (experiencing an annual growth of 365 students over the past ten years) in 17 buildings and a teaching staff 67% of whom hold a Master’s Degree.  The community offers outstanding amenities that contribute to an excellent quality of life that is enjoyed by the residents.  A vibrant city with a small town heart is frequently noted as a unique and endearing quality found in Ankeny.  In addition residents often cite Ankeny as a great place to live, work and play.

The Ankeny Community School District Board seeks an individual who has demonstrated successful leadership in a growing district necessary to advance this district to its next level of excellence.  It is expected that a regionally competitive compensation package will be offered.  The board has chosen to conduct a confidential search with the names of applicants and interviewed finalist not to be released to the media or community.  Screening will be ongoing with a slate of candidates to be presented to the school board in mid- March.  Start date is July 1, 2021 or as agreed.  A Leadership Profile Report and complete listing of desired characteristics will be available after February 15, 2021.
