Overall Purpose
The job of EHS Safety and Risk Manager is done for the purpose/s of providing safety and risk management services for EHS/HS children from birth through age four and pregnant women; providing information to others; and implementing and maintaining services (facilities, materials, equipment, transportation, etc.) within established guidelines and standards .

Essential Functions
  • Assists in all facets of safety and risk program management for the purpose of ensuring qualified children and families are receiving the appropriate services under departmental and governmental standards.
  • Maintains a variety of files and records (compliance logs, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (reports, memos, records, letters, health plans, contracts, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Processes documents and materials (assessments, evaluations, informational materials, contracts, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
  • Provides technical assistance to Head Start center/child care staff (current EHS/HS guidelines, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring services are delivered in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Researches a variety of information (latest licensure requirements, EHS/HS guidelines, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of delivering services in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Develops and implements training plans for staff and parents in areas of child health and safety, transportation safety, as well as and personal safety trainings for staff.
  • Oversees coordination of transportation for program events and activities (car seats, communication with CCSD transportation services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring child safety.
  • Develops and implements corrective action plans for issues of non-compliance.
  • Obtains documentation of appropriate licenses and records in compliance with performance standards.
  • Provides direct services to parents and expectant parents to assist them in managing their family safety needs,
  • Responds to inquiries for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge-based Competencies
Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures; stages of child development; adult learning needs and the change process; conflict resolution; and risk management principles.
  • Ability-based Competencies
Required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups and individuals; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; leading, delegating and organizing tasks; and managing multiple projects.

Requirements
College degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management or related field preferred
Demonstrated experience in public safety and risk management preferred
Valid Georgia Driver's License

Physical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.

Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing.
